This is a site which lets you live the random life of anyone in the world, it by the chances of it actually happening in real life chooses where you live, how many borthers and sisters you will have, how rich of poor will your parents etc, etc.
It's quite interesting since some wired stuff can happen to you(you can become homosexual, your country can get in a war among other things) .
Anyway, you have to buy the game to play it all, but they have great free trial of the their site to download(10 days). I rather sure that after the 10days are up, if you deleted the whole thing you can re-download it, but not 100% sure.
So download it can share some of your lifes!
Sounds cool.
But after 10 days, you'll probably have to clean registry if you want to play it again. Ah, its finished downloading :D
I tell you, this game is damn good. Great find.
Yeah, its clever :)
In no other game can you be a corrupt North Korean bureaucrat :D
Tag.
Can't try it now, I'm on dialup and I can barely stand waiting for NS pages to load, but I'll try it as soon as I get broadband back.

There are the occasional accidents which are random.
But some things like malnutrition and illnesses can be exacerbated by having a low quality of life.
Also if you start smoking then it increases the chances dying through respiratory complications. You can also get addicted to drugs and alcohol.
One of the best ways to die (after the drive by of course), is being executed by the states secret police. (Which generaly happens in third world countries if you get involved in human rights groups etc).

It seems like a rather simplistic simulation: in my limited experience any character that begins with a reasonable intelligence rating can leave home at about age 12, and live off the streets, whilst still devoting all their spare time to reading and studying, and come out with exactly the same educational result as if they weren't living rough.
Generic empire
11-08-2004, 01:05
I found it to be quite inaccurate, the most humorous instance being when they located Richmond, Virginia on the west coast, in southern California. Also, it had a very anti-American bent to it. Most of the statistics shown when your avatar lived in the United States were highly inaccurate. I found it to be little more than a bleeding heart agenda to try to get people to worry about poverty, and I did not enjoy this manipulation in the least.

Exactly. Also, even with a first class education in government, a rich family in America, and 100% statistics in every category it still would refuse open jobs to you with no explanation. This is not a 'real life' simulator in the least, as it is completely irrational.

I managed 13 kids that time, sireing them between the ages of 15 and 30. After that despite repeated attempts, no further seeds sprang from my loins, until at age 36 my wife became unexpectedly pregnant: we decided to keep the child... and got an 'ACCESS VIOLATION'.
Anybody managed to beat 13 kids yet?
Oh, hang on, she has actually been born, but isn't showing up in the family window.
Anybody beat 14 kids?
Dear God, I just retired at age 40 with 14 kids, one wife, an ex-wife and enough money to live on till I'm 113 after working as a soldier for 20 years.

If you try to visit their website via the link it installs on your taskbar your browser is directed to the URL:

Most of the statistics shown when your avatar lived in the United States were highly inaccurate. I found it to be little more than a bleeding heart agenda to try to get people to worry about poverty, and I did not enjoy this manipulation in the least.
Bullshit. Play in Cuba and get randomly arrested for no reason at all or get executed for refusing to join the army in India. I can't see any particular anti-american agenda or bias in it.
The fact is, most of the worlds people do live like this game describes...

The draft seems pretty buggy too: I was playing a Mexican that was serving as a military sargeant before being drafted. He accepted the draft and was reduced to soldier, so I applied to change job back to military sargeant, and was accepted. Fair enough - they promoted me during the period of compulsoiry service (or so I though). Age a year. Get drafted again... so it seems that rising in rank whilst serving compulsory service counts as refusing to serve your compulsory service...

Mind you, it is trying to simulate a life lived during the 20th/21st Century on Earth, and describing our own real life game mechanics as "flamed somewhat" is porbably putting it lightly.

It seems to me that what we have here is a very interesting idea for a simulation/game, but one which has been implemented incredibly poorly. Basic central functions don't seem to work correctly (for example accidental pregnancies are always phantom pregnancies), and the options it provides to with don't seem to map onto the real world at all (for example men cannot become nurses), and it seems that we have spotted some glaring geographical errors in those areas with which we are familiar. This would be fair enough if it was a freeware or a shareware game, but when the guy has the nerve to try and aim it at the educational market, then that worries me greatly.

Sri Adjeng, the Indonesian soldier. Had 13 (12 if you count the ones that live)children and two wives (he accidently clicked "End Marraige"). Was outlived by his mother by twenty years (he died at the age of 52 from lung cancer). Became a father at age 16, smoking, doing drugs and battling on and off alcoholism. Had 5 siblings, three that were younger and two that were older. Ended his life living with his new wife and mother, with a net worth of 93,856,064 (an exchange rate of rupiahs per US dollar - 8,577.13 (2003))... So basically not as much as it appears.
Such an amazing story.
I also had a 13 year old Pakistani girl that got kicked out of her house for having a relationship with a boy the parents didn't like. Had to get a job as a farmer, the same boy that got her kicked out left her... Met another man, got married in the early teen's, had a child shortly after, and lived into her early 40's. She ended her life as a caretaker and had amassed a small fortune that amounted to about 200k in US dollars.

Has anybody found a way to have an extra-marital affair or more than one boyfriend/girlfriend simultaneously? The closest report we have had of this kind of thing was the infertile man's wife who kept 'mysteriously' becoming pregnant. There must be a way to have a bit on the side - surely serial monogamy isn't as universal as this game portrays?

Quite possibly - you will have noticed that there doesn't appear to be anyway to become a priest, yes? Interesting.
So based on the emphasis on tertiary education, are they planning to immanitize the eschaton through knowledge rather than violence?
Is it mere coincidence that Bill Drummond (ex-of the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu) sets up a sit called My Death (http://www.mydeath.net:8080/), and then the facelss masters of the Illuminati retaliate by promoting a game called Real Lives?

Hey, with all those years with nothing in the diary...
Notes about my most recent game:
-I got my first "too old to continue working as a doctor" notice at age 81, I died at age 131 after several years of being annoyed with the "you're too old to continue working as..." thing. WHY DIDN'T IT LET ME RETIRE?! There really needs to be a "retire" option, instead of hoping the game will be kind and let you retire.(you could just "quit job", but when you RETIRE, your occupation is "retired" instead of there being nothing there)
-I had 186,058,720 yen(that's $1,673,641.56). RICHES! HURRAH!
-My daughter is 81 YEARS OLD and STILL LIVING WITH ME. And she's MARRIED. I want to kick her out already!!!
-Oh wait, she died at the age of 94...WHILE STILL LIVING WITH ME!!!
-Hmm...I was infertle...then my wife got pregnant(I aborted that one)...several years later, the "infertle" vanished from my list of health problems... but when I tried to get my wife pregnent again, it said that I was still infertle. HMMMM...
-Weird...my health would deterioate to 37 or so, then jump back up to 70-ish, then it'd deterioate again, then it'd jump back up to 70-ish...

I had suspected that that might have something to do with relocating from one region to another, and still being paid at the usual rates for the other region, but you suggest otherwise. Certianly it seemed to me that quitting jobs frequently and seeking greener employment pastures was a much more lucrative path to follow instead of working overtime and continually hammering the 'ASK FOR A RAISE' option.

I now live with the constant fear that in 10 years I will be arguing with young kids on the internet who have formed their geopolitical opinions and knowledge of the world on the basis of this programme. I'm sure that you'll agree that in the name of all that is right, this game must be stopped.

I found a strange 'bug';
I cheated and made a man with 100% in everything - so of course I was infertile and got severe Depression (I guess being beautiful, strong, artistic and intelligent was just too much for one person to bear). Then I found no woman wanted me til I was 32 (and a high-paid judge) and she turned out to be schizophrenic, who commited suicide! Finally at age 48 I married - to a drug addict who beat me b4 she died of senility at age 62.
Finally, I kept dying age 70 of congential Heart failure. That is until I packed in my job at age 69, took up scavenging, became homeless, lived on a starvation diet and gave nothing to charity. When I did this, I lived til I was 101. And stopped being depressed. And I had $2Mill Euros in the bank.
I notice in another thread someone else who was a beggar lived til he was 102.
I wonder whether the makers of this aren't in fact socio-eco-anarchists who are trying to subtly influence us as to the way we should be living? If this game/sim takes off, maybe in a generation we'll have hordes of well-educated and well=paid ppl around the western world suddenly giving up their jobs and living on the streets. The very fabric of society will crumble and the anarchists will have won!

Good luck to them, I say! :p
Nah: I think the agenda behind it isn't that one: try actually taking part in social activism for any length of time, and you will see that you get slapped down hard, imprisoned, sentenced to death and the like. Political activism outside your job is strongly discouraged in the 'simulation'... and I use that term loosely.

Actually, the area your born in depends on the birthrate of a nation.
Naturally, China and India are highest I suppose

'Always' seems a bit strong, but being a girl should be more common than being a boy - 52% compared to 48% (provided that infant mortality rates between the two are equal).

http://www.educationalsimulations.com/
This is a site which lets you live the random life of anyone in the world, it by the chances of it actually happening in real life chooses where you live, how many borthers and sisters you will have, how rich of poor will your parents etc, etc.
It's quite interesting since some wired stuff can happen to you(you can become homosexual, your country can get in a war among other things) .
Anyway, you have to buy the game to play it all, but they have great free trial of the their site to download(10 days). I rather sure that after the 10days are up, if you deleted the whole thing you can re-download it, but not 100% sure.
So download it can share some of your lifes!
this is pretty cool! and surprisingly addictive... couldn't stop 'playing' it for hours last night :p
i was a japanese bloke, with lower-than-average intelligence, couldn't get a decent job or get into college, but i did live damn meagerly and save up a shitload of money in bonds and land! :D
then i was a guy named Charles living in Winchester, UK (where i grew up), with 100 intelligence and 100 concience. i worked as a company president for a large number of years, made some good money (but of course the UK is horrendously expensive to live in...), and lived a long and boring life before dying of cancer at 70-something. heh.

To make up for a severe lack of a real life?
