I think it's a toss up between Physical Graffiti, and Led Zeppelin II.

They are all good, so I pick The Complete Studio Recordsings

but i have a feeling that wasn't the kind of answer you were looking for, so I have to go with "IV"

IV, or "Zoso" is Zep's album that everyone knows, and it was thier biggest selling album, but I like the raw bluesy, rock tones of thier first album.

III was also great.

I dunno. I think the first one. I dunno. I really like the song "the Immigrant" and that one I think it's called "I keep it cool" or something...it's the one with the really like bongo bit with weird echoey noises, and then the drum beat comes back in with this AWESOME AWESOME SWEET guitar riff. So I like the albums that both those are on.

(keep in mind that I only have two of their compilation albums. My dad has Zep III. But I don't really like it because of "Stairway to Heaven". I'm gonna buy all their albums though. Dunno why I havn't gotten to it yet)

The first one is called 'The Immigrant song,' and is a classic. The second is called 'Whole Lotta Love,' and does indeed have an amazing solo after the synthesizer section. It's a great song off of Led Zeppelin II. You should buy Led Zeppelin II first, probably followed by either IV (Zoso) or Physical Graffiti. Also 'Stairway" is on Led Zeppelin IV. It is my personal favourite, and in my opinnion, has the best guitar solo ever.

IV is my personnal favorite. The one I like the least is In Through The Out Door.
But I have to say the 4CD boxed set is really a great anthology. Worth getting if you don'T have any Zep albums yet.

It's a theramin, not a synthesizer. I think Bring it on Home is the best solo, followed, by Achilles Last Stand.

A Theramin is an early form of synthesizer. I could not recall the name.

1. Houses of the Holy
2. Zoso
3. Physical Graffiti

Also, I don't consider the theramin to be a synthesiser of any kind. You may as well call the electric guitar a "form of synthesiser".

No, it's an entirely different sort of thing. It's an instrument that you don't touch to play. I think you are thinking of melotron.

An electric guitar is basically an amplified accoustic guitar - yes, it may be solid bodied, but the sound it makes without power is closely related to the sound it makes when connected to an amp. The sound isn't synthetic, just amplified and treated. Thus, not a synthesiser.

Compare this to a theremin: what noise does it make when played without power? None - the noise is synthesised by the interference between the two aerials and the player's hands, along with any oscillators that may be added to the circuit. Thus, a synthesiser.

Possibly he is thinking of the Tannerin, which was a cross between a theremin and a keyboard, and was used on 'Good Vibrations'?

Yes but I think he was meaning an actual synthesiser. Theremin uses interfence of hands to play, blocking of radio signals creates a different noise. But I wouldn't consider it a true synthesiser in the sense of the word. I would consider it more of a ham radio set.

It is however, synthesised noise and thus a synthesiser, even if it does not have the keyboard controls that we have become used to associating with synths, yes?

Would you deny that a software synth is a synthesiser?

I'm not entirely sure what definition you are using for a synthesizer - "something with a keyboard that makes electronic noise"?

I was writing about the actual musical insturment, not the scientific term.

Yeah, I didn't want to get that anal about it. Personally I wouldn't call a theremin a 'synth' but I might say it makes 'synthesised noise' and is thus a 'synthesiser'.

Anyhow: nobody voted for In Through The Out Door? No? Are we surprised?

I know what a theramin is, and how it is played. I doubt that the person to whom my original comment was addressed would know that information, however, and so I used the very broad and general term 'synthesizer' to describe the particular place in the song 'Whole Lotta Love' to which I was referring.
