BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq has issued arrest warrants for Ahmad Chalabi, a former Governing Council member with strong U.S. ties, on counterfeiting charges, and for his nephew Salem Chalabi — head of the tribunal trying Saddam Hussein — on murder charges, Iraq’s chief investigating judge said Sunday.

Yep--those Chalabis. Ahmad was allegedly mixing in counterfeit money with legitimate money--old dinars with Hussein's face on them--for the new money issued by the provisional government, and Salem was named as a suspect in the murder of Haithem Fadhil, director general of the finance ministry.

Lest anyone forget, these are the same Chalabis who were responsible for the lion's share of the intelligence the Bush administration used to build its case for war in Iraq. It's not like the Bush's had reason to suspect the Chalabi's honesty--Ahmad was only tried and convicted in absentia for bank fraud in Jordan.

The report also notes that Chalabi also was accused recently of informing Iran that the United States had broken its secret intelligence codes, a charge he branded as “stupid.” And around the time of the raid on his house, U.S. officials privately complained that Chalabi was interfering with a U.S. inquiry into money skimmed from the U.N. oil-for-food program by pursuing his own probe.

Wonder how Judith Miller and the NY Times editorial staff is feeling right about now?

I also wonder how many of his former buddies are wishing they'd never been in a photo-op with him.

Colin Powell?

How about Rick Santorum?

I doubt he'll get seats this good at the State of the Union address again.
