The Greatest Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Artist of All Time, Part Three

This is a continuation of a poll I've done. Part One contained: Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Ozzy Osbourne. Led Zeppelin won. Part Two contained: Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Cream, and The Yardbirds. This poll is still in progress. My vote goes to Slayer for this one. This poll shall cover everything from Bo Diddley to Entombed.

Slayer and Entombed from that list, but it's still Lawnmower Deth. Put 'em in your next poll and I might even vote.

Tool is still the greatest band of modern times. Definitely of the last 5 years, probably the last 10 as well. And when I say greatest band, I don't just mean rock band. They rule all of modern music (everything I'm aware of, there may be some indie/underground group I've never heard).
Of your list...Probably Slayer, they have talent even if I can only take their music in small amounts (too much and my brain cries out for melody).

Tool- music by wankers for wankers.

Nirvanna isn't hard rock or heavy metal...and yet they're winning?
AC/DC baby! For those about to rock, we salute you!

Finally someone with some sense.
Tool is the greatest band of ever.
Followed by NIN, and then Slipknot.

Nirvana
Guns' N' Roses
Rainbow
Aerosmith
Entombed--------who ?
KISS
Thin Lizzy
None of these are even Metal bands.
Slayer gets my vote.
And KISS is still metal... although I don't like them... and they're more hair metal if anything.

You lost me at "Tool is the greatest band ever..." I thought we were talking about sense.... and then we have nine inch nails and slipknot in the conversation...
Your statement confuses me.

KISS is not now, nor have they ever been a metal band.
Glam rock. Thats what they were.

Come on... they were glam metal...
I mean do you really mean to tell me that Bon Jovi is more metal than KISS?

Kiss was a rock band.
They never claimed to be metal, and not many people actually make that distinction.
Bon Jovi.....isnt even real music.

AC/DC baby! For those about to rock, we salute you!
How ironic; "For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)" was playing on the radio as I read this very message. Nirvana is a heavier form of rock, yes? AC/DC was on the first poll (lost to Led Zeppelin).
Nirvana
Guns' N' Roses
Rainbow
Aerosmith
Entombed--------who ?
KISS
Thin Lizzy
None of these are even Metal bands.
Rainbow is a British Metal band by definition, formed by Ritchie Blackmore. Aerosmith is a pioneer to Metal and is, besides, Hard Rock. Again, everything from Bo Diddley to Entombed. Entombed, by the way, is a Death Metal band (The greatest, in my opinion). Guns' N' Roses is a form of Hair Metal with a bit of Punk. Thin Lizzy is EASILY Hard Rock. This is Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. There is a difference.

Yeah, because Adam Jones goes all over the place with ridiculously long shredding guitar solos, right?

Have you listened to Death? The band entitled Death that is...
Yeah, because Adam Jones goes all over the place with ridiculously long shredding guitar solos, right?
OR because those ridiculously long guitar solos aren't that good.

Does he? Add that to the pretentious twattery of everything else and that's all the more reason not to listen to Tool then.

I would have voted for Megadeth, but they seemed to have lost it after `so far, so good....so what`, their album after that `Rust In Peace` was listenable but they seemed to have over produced it, they lost the energy, passion...it was empty. As for the others after that it doesnt even merit a response

Come on. Slayer. ""Reign In Blood"". Seriously.
Easily Tool, without a doubt. They are a lot more contemplative than most of the other bands up here, but that makes them awesome. Plus, Maynard has the sexiest voice ever, and Danny Carrey is just a frickin' phenomenal percussionist.

WTF? Do you people even read the first post... and the poll choices? OR do you just post after reading half the title?
Oh no, I read the poll choices... I just don't think any of them qualify as "the greatest."

I have to agree, none of those bands are really that incredible. They have a lot of fans, sure, but music wise they pale in comparison to a lot of lesser known bands.
System of a Down should be up there, as should Inflames.
I'd say the best metal group right now is Hopesfall ( www.hopesfall.com )
And if they count, My Chemical Romance.

Motorhead, surely. A classic metal band and Lemmy would piss all over any of those nancy boys in todays metal bands. No I mean literally, he probably would piss on them - but that's what I expect from my metal band frontmen.
Nirvana are the only band in this poll that i'm really into.

Motorhead was in the second part. Come on. Vote for Slayer. Seriously. If you don't like anyone here, at least vote for Slayer.
go pantera!
and probably one of the best new metal bands: cradle of filth. something to keep in mind for a potential 4th poll...
and nirvana so aren't metal or hard rock. they're alternative. i don't think guns and roses are metal or hard rock either, they're just rock. similarly with aerosmith. that's like saying the red hot chili peppers are heavy metal... except that the peppers get heavier than them at times.
