Does anyone else notice how much is allowed on TV nowadays? I mean, all they talk about is sex, sex, sex and they allow almost naked people on TV. I mean come on, we have to have some boundaries. If TV keeps going at the rate it is at in a few years they'll allow the "f" word and nudity on primetime television. Think about it, today, something that is rated PG-13 would have been rated R or NC-17 twenty years ago.

you must live in a repressed society. Here, anything after 8.30pm you are pretty much allowed any swearing and nudity that you like. The funny thing is, the world did not end when breasts were first allowed on TV.

I know that late night TV has swearing and some nudity and I don't think that it is necessary. The swearing doesn't bother me as long as every other word isn't a swear, and the sex I could just do without. If our society is so perverted that we need stuff like that on regular channels that is just SAD! I love the show NYPD Blue, but I never watch the last five minutes because they always have to squeeze in some adult content at the end.

tv was getting alot worse but its been getting better almost everything is hush hush since the super bowl, and now the fcc is talking about limiting violence. I shouldnt say worse though because isnt it really just showing more of what we as a people want to see?? fifties tv is boring. And Americans are actually alot more prude than other countries, look at parts of europe and south america and mexico and well everywhere else where they show nudity frequently on tv for no reason at all. At my old school we had a foreign exchange student from brazil (i believe), that had a taped version of what plays on tv where hes from. In the video it had nude commercials and everything else, the teacher freaked out but the f.e.s. had no idea what was wrong it was natural for him.

I don't think that Americans are prude enough. But anyway the nudity isn't what bothers me that much, it how they could turn nudity on regular stations into porn if it was allowed. Think of all the little kids that could be watching.
You know, the TV can be turned off.
i'd say the real problem is that people are still bothered by nudity and still think sex is something that needs to be hidden from children. We all have genitals, we all have nipples, we all have butts...why are we so bothered by seeing pictures of them? most of us have had sex or will have sex over the course of our lives, so why should it bother us to see it or hear about it?
just because some Americans are stupid doesn't mean TV is wrong to expose their stupidity. sex can only be gratuitous and dirty if society allows it to be viewed as such; when sex is embraced and accepted as natural then there won't be any such conceptions of "dirty" acts.

Sexual repression is psychologically harmful. I think many paraphilias and to a lesser extent other psychological problems can be traced to sexual repression.

I agree.
Sexual repression is why there are pedophiles in your church (I am assuming you are a Bible-thumping Christian, Suicidal Librarians).
Who cares. 90% of 16 year olds in the US have looked at porn (my friend said this was conducted in a study, don't know if it's true, but it probably is). So who cares if things like nudity show up on TV at 8:30 on regular channels. Sex is a part of life. As long as youth channels keep it supressed (which they will or soccer moms will have their heads) there will always be a place that parents can let their kids watch TV without nudity etc.

Turn it off and find something else to do, like read a book.

Bible-thumping Christian? I am Christian, but I've never heard of a pedophile in a Presbyterian church. I just think that if people want swearing and nudity, they can rent a R-rated movie or a porno. If TV must have swearing, okay, I hear people swear all the time, it doesn't bug me. But sex is not something I see all the time, so I don't want to watch that. A person should be able to watch a good TV show without all the smut added. I think that adults will be able to live a day without seeing sexual content on TV. You can add all the crap you want to movies, just keep it off TV.

In the UK you can show pretty much anything on TV after 9pm aslong as:
1) It hasn't been banned by the BBFC
2) It isn't hardcore pornography
It wasn't always like this, it used to be that you couldn't show sexual or violent scenes on television. But I'll tell you what, when the 9pm watershed was introduced our country didn't suddenly turn to crap.
For a country that allows nigh on anybody to own a gun and allows religiously motivated ignorance to be so rampant, you sure are up tight about what you want to see on your television.
