Do you think it is proper for a man who isn't married to wear a mustache. I feel that unless you have a child or are married you shouldn't wear a stache. It always makes me wonder what is up with that guy!

Well, I'm not married, and I have a 'stache. I look much too young if I shave it off. With the mustache, I look 18-21 (I'm almost 19). Without it, I look about 14. And the ladies love my mustache! :D

what the hell does having a mustache have to do with being married?

Yeah before we got married if my other half shaved he got carded for everything includeing smokes. he turned 30 in june. So he is very attached to his mustache and I let him keep it hehe with out it, it looks like i am robing the cradle.

But
Seriously why should only married men and or fathers have them??

I'm personally of the opinion that a moustache alone looks pretty dorky. I wear a moustache and a beard now, and in the past had a goatee, and there's no way in hell that I'd go with just the 'stache now. I did it once, may back when I was first married--I look at pics from then and shudder now.

You probably shouldn't wear a moustache unless you remember WWII, and it probably isn't acceptable for anyone to have a full on Merv Hughes. Also, the only time you should have a hitler-style moustache is when you're halfway through shaving off a larger moustache, and only intend to wear it until the novelty wears off and people start taking the piss.

I thought the "married" part had something to do with the OP being Amish, since they typically stop shaving after marrying. Then I realised (a) the Amish don't use NS, and (b) the Amish don't grow moustaches anyhow. So I'm not sure what the deal is there.

Anyhow, for my 2ยข, I'm one of those people who looks about 12 years old without facial hair, but has enough testosterone to grow some, so I'm all in favour of moustaches or beards.

And even then, I'm not about to point out the dorkiness to the person who just pulled me over.

Really? Why?

I have a small beard. Keep well trimmed.

My wife prefers it and my girl? Well she has no opinion. ;)

I'm not saying there's anything too wrong with a stache. As long as you have a kid or are married. Otherwise you just look silly, or are an out of work porno actor, or a leatherman, or gay (or a gay leatherman), or a cop, or just have something to hide. "DSM's are not for self respecting folks!"

Whats wrong with looking gay? Are you suggesting that gay people have no self respect?

Nothing wrong with looking gay, but if you look like the leather man from the village people, I'm not going to let you babysit my grandkids.

ALL men should be forced to grow a goatee as soon as it is physically possible

a man should only have a moustache if they go to a professional to get it properly groomed at least once. so they know what style looks best on them

It's likely just a 70's backlash that makes us shudder at mustaches and think of John Holmes. But I imagine it still looks okay for some guys.

If the mustache isn't comically funny, ie Handlebar-mustaches and the "French-waiter" mustache, then it should never, ever be grown!!

I don't trust people with mustaches

The only people who have mustaches anymore are Cops and Porn-stars.

What the heck is a DSM? Surely you don't mean the American Psychiatric Association's "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders", but that's the only DSM I know....

You should grow a mustache whenever you want, my step dad has this sunken in upper lip. If your like him then youll never be able to get married without one. Youd have to live like that FOR-E-VER FOR-E-VER!! Grow one if you like. Some religions are horrible restricting if it has rules like this maybe you should do some reasearch and find out why, maybe its not the right religion.

Men are supposed to have hair.

Facial hair? Absolutely.

Long, flowing hair coming off their head? Absolutely.

We have plumage for a reason. It is the birthright of our sex.

...DSM=D$$$ Sucker Mustache

O....K. :?

Anyway, I've had facial hair of one type or another since around age 14. Before I shaved my beard a few weeks ago, It was about four inches long and three months old. I didn't shave for a week and now I have a nice goatee.

My mustache, unfortunately, doesn't grow as quickly or thick as my beard.

But yeah, I don't see anything wrong with having a mustache or beard- as long as you can actually grow one. I've had several different kinds- one of my favorite was having mutton chops for a while, and then shaving the mustache and just letting the sides grow really long- thing "X-men's Wolvering after six months living in a hole".

My parents were, shall we say, not amused.

(Well, my Mom, at least. My father said he didn't care, but it looked like I didn't know what century it was.)

But yeah, if you don't like them, don't grow them. Calling them DSMs just seems a little crass.

Nothing wrong with looking gay, but if you look like the leather man from the village people, I'm not going to let you babysit my grandkids.

I once had a handlebar mustache, somewhat similar to his. I thought I looked good. Besides, I've never been much on babysitting, anyway.

I have a full beard and mustache. I'll shave it off once in a while, if I grow tired of it. Otherwise I'm quite content with it, screw what anyone else thinks. If I were to change every time someone else disliked something about me... well, I wouldn't be me.

I had a handlebar moustache that connected to the sideburns last year at uni. But I only did it for a joke, it was a Darkness thing...

I go through monthly phases of shaving, one month regular shaving, next month can't be bothered type thing... I always shave when my friends tell me I look stupid with a beard, they say I look like Tom Hanks in Castaway. Never good.

Still rocking long sideburns though, just to keep the spirit of beard alive.

(God, I'm bored. Why am I posting in a thread about moustaches?)
