Villagers said the alleged witches cut off the sexual organs of dead villagers and used them to concoct charms intended to bring good harvests and fortune.
Sounds like some benevolent witches to me.

What a messed up area. Not only do these people believe in witchcraft, but this article shows that the central government has no control out there. Sad, isn't it?

What's wrong with witchcraft? (As long as you don't hurt anyone.)

Nothing. It's just the fact that the belief is so wide-spread. It isn't as wide-spread in any developed area on the planet, now is it?

So? I don't understand your point. Are you saying they believe in witchcraft because they're rural hicks? It was my impression that the "witchcraft" being spoken of in the link actually refers to a belief system.

They go hand in hand. Why was it that witch hunts occured in the 1500s? Because religion divided the people of Europe, and the continent was far more rural than even by 1900.

because "main stream" religions are rampant in those areas and they are what we call intolerant

People like these are the ones that give bad names to Pagans.

Paganism is an acknowledged belief system/religion followed well before most of the 'mainstream' religions were even known.

Who said anything about Paganism?

Wile it's true that modern Paganism has roots is older religions it certainly has been adapted to be compatible with modern practitioners. Even if it hasn't been changed why does age make it more valid?

It has been adapted because that is how it is supposed to be, adaptable to the individual and their own personal path ... just so long as they follow the rede "an it harm none, do what ye wilt". My path forms around me as I walk it, you could say.

Age, simply because I could say it. As much as self-righteous religions shove their religion at me, occasionally I want to do some shoving of my own. It wasnt aimed at anyone.

Though, valid-ness wasnt the point was it? If being a Jedi Knights is a recognised and valid religion now (it is, honestly - I'll find an evidential link later) why does something like Paganism have to constantly fight to be seen as valid?

Witchcraft has had, and continues to have, various definitions. Witchcraft doesn’t have to be based on paganism, there are Christian witches, for example.

There isn't even any evidence to suggest these people are witches let alone pagans.

It has been adapted because that is how it is supposed to be, adaptable to the individual and their own personal path ... just so long as they follow the rede "an it harm none, do what ye wilt". My path forms around me as I walk it, you could say.

Really, I've known Pagans that don't follow the rede. I always thought the rede was a Wiccan, not necessarily Pagan, thing.

This thread didn't question the validity of Paganism until you brought it up. And the way you said it implied that new religions are less valid as they aren’t as old, at least that’s how it sounded to me.

Who cares what people believe in or how they worship, just as long as they are not cutting off people's gentitals because of it.

It's not been proven that they cut of human genitals.
