This op-ed peice says it all. It was published in a Lebanese newspaper, and since I'm of Lebanese descent, I feel proud that they've even got their own newspaper back in operation.

So basically the editors would like Kerry to commit political suicide. Yeah, I wonder why he wouldn't fall into such a trap. The second he starts naming European countries that might be persuaded into Iraq the Republicans will brand him as caring more about Europe than America. Come on, find an editorial written with some intelligence behind it. A 5th grader could figure out the rationale behind this.

What I find rather amusing is Bush is actually adopting Kerry's policy on Iraq.. Kerry's been saying for months what Bush is just starting to catch onto, so makes ya wonder..

You mean the multilateral part of Kerry's plan? I think Kerry wants to pursue it with more vigor than Bush is. In reality, I really don't think that the US needs too much help here, with the exception of nominal support from our allies, and training Iraqi security forces (training them overseas is fine). More troops, however, are not needed. I think our troops are holding out remarkably well, even though they're far less in numbers than in most occupations.

you know i have vaccilated amongst my various positions but after a few recent events i think mr. bush would do a swell job. he and his associaltes have experience. you know, i think john kerry is an oppurtunist and based on polls so do his constituents in mass. well, i would hope both men would try to do the right thing. i really dont see huge differences on iraq with bush and kerry. they were both for it, they both said the same things about it, and both would have and did build a good coalition.

Both Kerry and Bush are adopting the more centrist parts of each other's platforms in an attempt to win back the middle. Kerry pushes his 'war hero' credentials and Bush appeases the world community. While it is no doubt a cynical political ploy by both men, We the People are going to be better for it.

Now if they can just keep those attitudes beyond the first Tuesday in Novemeber ...

you know, i just had the same conversation yesterday. the democrats cannot win this year on liberalism. they must run for the center. think about this, every time a real hard core lib like kerry runs he losses big, 1972, 1984, and 1988 are examples. only southern moderates win like carter and clinton. its proven. this goes even more so this year. kerry needs to at least appear tough on terrorism to win.

the important thing is that we need to get all of the iraqis on our side. think about it . if right now , say 99% are docile and only 1% are motivated to kill soldiers. than thats hundreds of thousands of iraqis. even with 99% support we could be one on one. we need to prevail. this needs to be done by the soldiers on the ground. we need to destroy terrorists with maximum effeciency. this takes a substancial amount of addition money on our part. not necessarly foreign troops. but more accurate weapons, and more intelligence on the ground. i think that both bush and kerry need to be aware of that. i think bush relyed on falty intelligence in iraq. and i think kerry will slaughter the budgets of defense + the cia ect. not good on either side.
