Free iPod?
So....some group is giving away free iPods if you get 5 friends to sign up and then complete one internet offer (all of which can be done without any cost to you- or at least minimal cost- like 50 cents) All my sources say that this isn't a scam, but have any of you heard about it? What's the deal?
If you want to look into it for yourself, this is the link:

Note: this is supposed to be my referral link, so if you go and sign up I should get credit for a referral- don't want you to think I'm trying to trick you.

just wondering if anyone has heard about it, and if anyone wants to be my referral :p

Yeah, at another message board I go too someone posted theirs. I signed up for them and I got a link but when I got to the eBay sign up at the end.(The one I chose) I didn't have my debit card to input to really sign up for eBay. Hopefully it still counted. I've heard several people state they really got one. Who knows. I need to get 5 people to sign mine.

...please? I desperately want one. Just sign up for eBay at the end.

I'm looking at the list of offers at the end and it doesn't list eBay anymore. I'm pretty sure that was the only free one. ...no way I'm getting anyone to sign up now.

No, you don't need a credit card. You have to do one of the things at the very end of registration. The only one I saw that was free was to sign-up for eBay and bid on one thing. You could bid 1 cent, it doesn't matter. But, in order to really verify your eBay account, you need to register your Credit Card or Debit card. That's always how eBay does it. Not a scam, unless eBay is a scam.

Bah! Got one last weekend. 20 GB storage capacity originally at £219 but I got a discount to £199 (only ten pounds more expensive than the 15 GB in the end). It was preowned and had some superficial and almost unnoticable scratching on the screen but it works well and I love the thing....
...not many 16 year olds own this device in Britain, more of an adult toy!

posted on another board...but quite interesting...

I see a lot of "a friend from a board" or "somone my uncle's dog knows" or whatever.
Yet I see way more "hey guys, come to my link!" than actual people saying it came in. at them making only $7 per AOL referal plus my combing of their terms.. I find it to be a misleading offer. Numbers don't add up, and the terms prove that you have zero recourse.
I think there is a lot of baiting going on, sites like this have affiliates who pretend to be plain regular joes getting this stuff so they can stand to make a couple of bucks refering people. That is my experience. My board also has a thread on this.. 2 months later.. no one has yet to get an IPOD. Had at least 19 people complete the offer as illustrated(yet the fine print pretty much makes it impossible).
My experiences tell me that there is no such thing as a free lunch and those "get something for nothing" ads usually have hidden strings.
PT Banum was right.... there is indeed a sucker born every minute.

indeed
and if I'd had to supply a credit card I wouldn't have evn considered it.
However, I saw nothing wrong with signing up since there wasn't so much anything to lose. I mean, worst case is I don't get an iPod and they send me a bunch of junk mail to the e-mail address that I don't even use, except to sign up for stuff on the internet- because I always assume someone is gonna spam me (even nationstates!)
Well anyway, I wasn't asking if people thought the concept sounded like a scam. OBVIOUSLY it sounds like a scam. I was just wondering if anyone knew someone who either DID get an iPod for free, or else who completed everything and didn't get one...more proof instead of speculation.

Y'know you can get a brand new 20GB for £219 now... not a preowned one.
Bad luck :(
Something tells me that Apple wouldn't be giving away all those free iPods.

It's not Apple. It's a company that buys it for you.

...yeah...
£199 is a hell of a lot for a pre-owned (nigh, scratched) iPod, still if it works and you're happy with it you've saved yourself £20. iPods are the mutt's nuts though. :D

Have they fixed the problem with the battery that only lasts 18-months and then you have to buy a new iPod yet?

Nope, and it can't be fixed unless apple makes the batteries removable. 18-24 months is the limit of an ipods life, but they are getting cheaper (and cooler...I got a 4th generation ipod, and its slick.)
