Moral Dilemna

(originally posted elsewhere but not enough response)

Well anyway, here i am playing this fun online game, free for me due to the generosity of one MB, and thinking to myself that i might go an buy one of his books. So I walked up to the bookshop near my work and low and behold a copy of syrup in hardback. This copy in particular is second hand and priced at about %25 of normal retail. Should i feel guilty buying the book knowing that not a single cent will get back to MB. Now in general i am pretty ambivalent to intellectual property rights and the thousands of MP3s on my hard drive are testament to that but in this case i do feel at least some sympathy for the artist. On the other hand, in purchasing the book i guess i am helping in some way to ensure that MB is taken seriously by the local literary community by demonstrating his popularity.

I will be buying that book in the next couple of days unless the Nationstates community persuades my otherwise. Comments are thus welcome.

If it's secondhand, Max has already gotten the royalties, so don't feel guilty. He got them the first time the book was sold.

this is true but lets remember the capitalist ethic, more IS better.

MB should be happy that the book has changed hands to yet another interested reader. as far as royalties, the last post covers that.

I say buy that one and if your still riddled with guilt buy a fresh brand new copy and send it and 20 bucks to the author begging forgiveness and ask for it to be signed.

Or just send him 10$ to begin with and don't buy the new book.

Just buy the bloody book & send the delightful Mr Barry a cheque, if you feel so bad about it. Jesus.
