I just read an artical about the Armenian genocide that occured when the lands that made up Armenia were under the control of the Ottoman Empire. Why is this sad chapter in history not taught? And why does the Turkish Government ignore this sad chapter in their history?

It was said that when Hitler finalised the Holocaust plans he was questioned about what people would think. His comment "Who remembers the Armenians" Well I remember seeing that somewhere but don't know the validity. Have not seen it since.

Anyhow.

I had a teacher who was Armenian. He told the story of his grandmother making a run for it with his mother and uncles and an aunt(4 kids).

She had Gold coins and some jewelery strapped to her thigh. While waiting to be processed word went down the line that they will kill anybody trying to sneak valuables. She freaked and wen around a corner, pulled the belt and tossed it over a fence.

They got processed and tossed into a truck (way over packed) and were told they were going to get their just rewards. The people panicked and were beat back into the truck.

She was convinced they were going to die as they head out into the dessert. The truck made a turn and then drove off to a port and tossed everybody onto the ships.

The info was correct. People caught sneaking money were executed.

That story had an impact on me and I am a firm beliver that war is justified in the case of genocide.

But nobody did anything when the Turks murdered armenians, just like nobody did anything when the turks started murdering cypriots.

I dunno. In Australia, there's an awful lot of breast-beating over 'the stolen generation'. School students learn about that in school.

Mind you, I would argue that that (the stolen generation, not the Armenian thing) doesn't technically amount to genocide, although the effect that it had on Aboriginal culture could be compared to genocide.

The sad thing for the USA is that I don't think it's mentioned much in the classrooms.

And the world didn't do anything about Rawanda either. Why sacrifice lives for a poor country with nothing to exploit.

The only champion they had was the Canadian fellow in charge. Can't remember his name but he is an honorable man.

Even my damn country said don't use the G word else it would force an action.

I had a couple friends that I think died in that crap. Lost contact with them and never regained it.
