Politically motivated Terror alert based on pre-9/11 intelligence

This week's terror alert in New York and Washington was based on information gathered about the target before sept. 11. It made no reference to dates.

Could it be more obvious that the alert was a political ploy? Tom Ridge said that the reason we have this intelligence is because of the leadership of President Bush, which is simply not true, we have the intelligence because the Pakistani government captured it. I find this fear-mongering disgusting. How can anybody defend this political manipulation of fear?

It's easy to defend. YOu say... we have intelligence that you should be very afraid. We aren't going to tell you any more than that though. National security you know? I mean we could tell you to stay out of the subways or highrises but then the terrorists might change their plans ont eh spur of the moment or even *gasp* not go thru with it at all because people know where they are going to strike.

I don't know, it seems politically motivated but it sure has some people I know really scared. It certainly gets attention away from Bush's screw ups and silly things like the election.

The terror alert has never dropped below a heightened level since the levels were first introduced. It will never drop below a heightened level and people will desensitize from even hearing anything about it. Its already starting to happen.

Terror alerts have seem to come at convenient times the last several months. While it can't be proven that they are politically motivated, it certainly seems more than coincidental. However, what annoys me more is that the Bush Administration was pressuring Pakistan to make the statement during the DNC that they had captured a top al-Qaeda operative.

But why is anyone surprised by this in the first place? There is a very distinct strategy in the works here. Keep people constantly afraid...continue switching who the enemy is or bring out new enemies (evildoers) that we must take care of...engage in a war that can never have an ending (War on Terror???) but will only drag on indefinitely...bring out the accusations of being unpatriotic or un-American to anyone who disagrees...and then constantly remind people that you are the one that is making them safer.

I just wish people would wake up and take the time to realize that if we were truly safer, then our terror alert would have dropped. The amount of attacks around the world would have dropped. The continuous casualty rate would have dropped. The restrictions on our liberties would have been eased. But none of that has happened.
