In an effort to make the mood a little lighter in these forums. I have decided to make a thread about Hotels.

Hotels? - You ask.

Yes thats right Hotels!

Has anyone got any really interesting stories about really cool features Hotels had when they went there - like how good the minibar was and things like that. Or whether anyone has indulged in lavious luxury and got a suite with a ensuite plunge pool?

Fire away!

I spent a month in Mexico once and my hotel room was bigger than my house. The coolext thing was the shower. It had like 4 shower heads and could fit about 8 people. ;)

uh...

1) Did you test that 8 person theory? That'd be an interesting story.

2) I'm sure I could fit 8 people in my shower at home. What's your point?

Funny you should ask. As most of you know my husband IRL is Zeppistan, he is currently off of work on two weeks of holiday. My 6 year old son went off last week for a week of camp with Zep's dad and Zep's mum agreed to watch our daughter Holly for 2 days (she couldn't go to camp, she's only 6 months old)

So last week end Zeppistan and I headed off to Ottawa's finest hotel for two nights. We had thought to maybe leave the city, but since we only had two days, we figured we just stay at the nicest hotel in the city and be tourist at home.

The man who first opened this hotel actually went down with the Titanic.. So, that's a pretty interesting tid bit, also during WWI the hotel was used to recruit and assemble the Canadian army before deploying to Europe.

It is rich in history and such people as the Queen and her father (when alive) have stayed at this hotel as well as the who is who in the world. Ottawa is the capital of Canada, so it's a huge spot for foreign dignitaries as well as some famous stars such as John Lennon have stayed there with his then wife Yoko..

The history of the hotel is so rich in Canadian history, there would be too much to go into. Perhaps I can share a few photo's of our week-end and you might get a better idea to just how fabulous this hotel is. I might add we stayed in the Executive Suite, which costs more a night then most people make in a week..lol but hey, we only had two days!

This first one is a picture of the hotel from the outside

This next one is a picture of the suite we stayed in (It was much larger then the pic looks, but there are only so many angles with a camera you can get!

The next two pics are just pics that Zeppistan took on our walk around the hotel

The great part is this is the city we also happen to live in. We get to see this beauty any time we want to. Ottawa truly is a beautiful city, if you ever get to come to Canada, stop by Ottawa, it's really beautiful!

Do you really expect us to believe that his real name is Zeppistan?

Okay, so you're a couple of happily married, intelligent, liberal, successful business owners -- you're working on a PhD and rearing two children -- and all the while the both of you still have time to post on Nationstates late into the early morning? Only in Canada!

Well, I am not working on my Ph.D again till fall, Zeppistan (If he wants to tell you his real name that's up to him) owns the business and you won't find him posting at this hour, even though he is on holidays. However, yeah, given our business is in IT, we basically work at the computer. So of course we have time to post on NS. I bet a lot of people post from work, I know Zep does it from work all the time. I'm lucky because I get to work mostly from home. Jake (my son) is in day camps all summer so I only have to care for a 6 month old at the moment. Yes, life has been good to us, I can't argue that!

haha-- Well, I wasn't doubting you... I just read your post and was fascinated by the fact that the American Dream is alive and well -- in Canada! If it sounded like a swipe, then I apologize.

It's not that I'm trying to be nosey -- I guess, I just thought it was funny that you mention your children by name but use the moniker for your husband.

More power to you and good luck with your business and education.

Hehe, no problem.. I use my real name as well. I guess I see no reason to use a fake one so that would be why I also name my children by their real names too. Zep has decided he wants a fake name, so, I respect that and I don't think it's my place to tell you his name. Mostly because I don't know to be honest if he wanted to keep it secret or not. I'll ask him when he wakes up and tell you if he says it's okay..lol :D

I went to a hotel in the mountains of Colorado. It had a huge hedge maze and a 1920's themed ballroom and bar. The only problem with the place was that blood would occasionally pour out of the elevator when you used it.

Roffle!

Eh, I've been to my fair share of hotels. Nothing big or fancy, really.

The best hotel in the world has to be Burj Al Arab in Dubai - I've never been there (Its $20,000 a night for a normal room!!). But some of my favourites that I have been to include The Madison in Washington, The Plaza in New York and The Anassa in Cyprus. When I stayed in The Madison it was because the Greek Cypriot Lobby Group in Britain (of which my dad is spokesperson) - went annually to Washington to speak with Greek Senators and listen to Clinton speak in the White House Amphitheatre.

It wasnt really the hotel that made it my best holiday - it was the fact I got to meet people like Senators. There was even a reception at some house outside of Washington and I actually spoke to George Tenet (he can speak Greek). But the hotel just topped it off and the delegation of 3 members of the lobby group (including my dad) even had a limosuine as transportation service. Easily my best holiday ever.

I stayed at the Hotel Yorba once, all they had inside was vacancy, I was a bit lonely so I stole some toilet roll, stuffed into my trousers, I got some strange looks when I left though!

It's late... so when I first read that sentence I missed the if and thought you were telling me that you didn't know your husband's real name...

I'll ask him when he wakes up and tell you if he says it's okay..lol :D
Heavens No, don't do that! It'd be too weird... what would you say "some guy from Texas demands to know your name" ???

... let's just pretend this whole converstion never happened! ;D
