That's not the best game ever. It is a complete 100% rip from Tribes, which was a great game, but either way, FPS is clearly a PC version.

And the abrev. for Allied Assualt is MoHAA. AA is the abrev. for America's Army (http://www.americasarmy.com)

I'm going to say Halo: Combat Evolved (XBox) as the FPS. The perfect blend of superb multiplayer, mass carnage, vehicular brutality, and graphics make it my number one! Well in the case of the XBox, Halo probably kept it alive long enough to survive the release dates of some other games. The real answer is money of course, and it worked with the XBox and Halo.

yea controls do are a little slower then mouse and keyboard. but halo is a social game. you hook up a few xboxs and you have 8 people playing and screaming at each other and its all friends. sure playing over the internet can be sweet but throwing a plasma grenade on your best friends head and watching it stick and he cant do anything about it. cant beat it. i have both halos because i thought halo over the internet would be sweet. but halo pc sucked and lagged.

Warcraft III is basically the same as the rest of the Blizzard games. Perfect Dark is basically a more futuristic, more updated, and in general better performing, with more options etc. of Goldeneye. SSX is a snowboarding series, that is one of those unrealistic arcade style games.

It depends on what you can handle. I certainly prefer PC FPS games (Quake, Doom, Hexen... Yay!), but I don't discount ones on console; even so, I can safely say about the only good console FPS game was Halo. But it's kinda hard to snipe without mouse (plus, it's mainly meant to be up-close combat ACTION ACTION TIME!!! Game, which aren't as fun sometimes. Go campers!), so my favourite can't be Halo. At this moment, I'd have to say Quake III simply because it's the most recent and it's soooo easy to knock someone off far away with railgun.

For all the Halo-ites out there...here is why Halo is not the best game ever in one word:

TRIBES

Heard of it? No? I thought not...
It came out probably about 4-5 years before XBox and Halo. Halo is just like it except with graphics that are about 4-5 years better. (Of course, when Tribes was new, it had cutting edge, top of the line graphics too.) The thing is...when Tribes came out, there wasn't a game anything like it before, which is what makes Tribes just about a billion times better than Halo. Also, not counting Tribes, Halo still isn't very unique. Ever heard of Unreal Tournament? I don't know which came first between UT and Halo, but the games are pretty similiar (except UT is lacking as far a vehicles go I think).

FPS: CoD, it's awesome.
RTS: Homeworld 2, AoM
ADV: The Longest Journey. If you don't have it, I feel sorry for you.
RPG: KotOR, NWN. Both are great, I'm playing NWN mostly right now.

About the controller debate - I cannot stand how slow and imprecise the Xbox (or any) console controller is. It's just so frustrating that it takes away from my enjoyment of any game I try to play on a console significantly. Mouse + Keyboard > controller.

NWN is an excellent choice. There are essentially no limits to that game. I'd play it more if I were more into RPGs. I just don't like not being able to find good servers etc. So when I'm in the RPG mood, I just go play Runescape because it's decent enough and free...kind of like my favorite FPS--America's Army (http://www.americasarmy.com)(Except AA is far beyond "decent enough")

Idiot, punctuation always goes inside the quote, regardless. You can't say "very unique"!?
That's wrong.

Furthermore, my outrage is related to the obvious fact that Unique is a superlative, meaning only a few adverbs can be strung onto it. You could say Almost Unique, or Very Creative... But think about it... "Very One of a Kind?" How can something be "Very One of a Kind?"

Super Mario 2 + 3, Tetris, Dr. Mario (tetris variant)

Sim City 2k, and 4 (I like the road stuff in 4)

And then there was Duck Hunt, sheerly for the novelty of being able to interact with the TV. That was amazing ;)

Actually, what other game out there's sole purpose was to try and see if they could desensitize people to the point where they'd just simply want to kill people at random?

You have my personal respect for mentioning Planescape:Torment. That had to be one of the most awesome games I have ever played. But along the lines of a RTS, I don't think anyone mentioned any of the C&C games. Why is that? They fall under my favorite RTS's. But my all time favorite game, is a game I can't even remember the name of. It's a game for the SNES. You play as a gold colored robot thing, and you go around through the game and it has the most awesome music and it's just good fun.

As there have been slight disappointments in the series, mainly Majora's Mask... I'd have to agree with you there. I've been playing the original 8-bit on my little brothers SP and I just can't stop.

Has anyone seen the movie for the new Zelda game? The graphics are so pretty. Link can parry now, and there's horseback sword fighting. *Insert Homer Simpson drool here*

Oh yeah, and Pong is rad.

I have to agree with you on the Resident Evil games. My first playstation game was Resident Evil: Directors Cut. There were a few dissapointments in the series. Survivor was horrible, just horrible, and Outbreak. Outbreak was a great idea, and it was fun. But it's only problem was the ANNOYING comments made every thirty seconds by the other two people in single player mode.

Super Mario 3 was actually a really good one...

Okay here I go:

Half Life:
Simply because it was so revolutionary - I remember my brother bringing the game home (and hiding it under his jacket because my mum had stipulated that we were not allowed to buy any more computer games until Christmas). And when you first got out of the monorail and the guards, actually SPOKE TO YOU!!! Wow! For a first time in an FPS, you could actually relate in someway to the characters.

Deus Ex:
An adventure of massive proportions - A game that actually made you think, not only about the game, but about the World itself, its chillingly accurate Sentient AI's which roam the electronic world looking for suspected terrorists is something that the US Homeland Security Department and CIA are attempting to do at the moment, though with little success. Brilliant game.

I'm not even talking about the grammar. I criticize people's grammar too. I'm talking about your idiotic arrogance.

While not necessarily a direct attack on me, or a direct self-promotion of your own intelligence, you assume that because you grew up "in a family that was intolerant of poor grammar" and in England (I assume) you automatically are the all-knowing source on grammar rules.
Not England, unfortunately; I live in Canada which, due to the fact that we mostly watch American television, has grammar that is almost as bad as the US. I do not enjoy that, and I've been trying to get people to speak real English for quite some time; usually, it fails because "good grammar isn't important" and that kind of retarded thing.

I am not the all-knowing source on grammar rules. I do believe I know quite a bit, but I do not know everything. Even so, I'm fairly certain that what I've been saying is true. I admit, I'm not entirely sure about punctuation in quotations, but from what I'VE heard, you're ALWAYS to have punctuation inside the quotations.

Above all, though, don't use adverbs on superlatives. I hate it when people do that.

On a different note, I know I am incredibly arrogant, but I would not consider it idiotic as you put it. See, there's a reason for everything, and there's a reason for why I'm arrogant. I DO believe I'm smarter than most people, honestly; not because "it's obvious" or anything like that, but I have constantly been surrounded by idiocy for most of my life. I recognize I am above it; it may sound wrong, but it's true. I recognize I am not above all, as well, but there are some times when people should learn.

Technically, you could consider any critic arrogant. That doesn't make them idiotic, though. Do you claim to be idiotic?

(Click "Punctuation" and select quotation marks from the drop down tab.)

QUOTATION MARKS

Rule 1. Periods and commas always go inside quotation marks, even inside single quotes.

Examples The sign changed from "Walk," to "Don’t Walk," to "Walk" again within 30 seconds.
She said, "Hurry up."
She said, "He said, ‘Hurry up.’"

Rule 2. The placement of question marks with quotes follows logic. If a question is in quotation marks, the question mark should be placed inside the quote.

Examples She asked, "Will you still be my friend?"

Do you agree with the saying, "All’s fair in love and war"?
Here the question is outside the quote.

NOTE: Only one ending punctuation mark is used with quotation marks. Also, the stronger punctuation mark wins. Therefore, no period after war is used.

Rule 3. When you have a question outside AND inside a quote, use only one question mark and place it inside the quotation mark.

Example Did she say, "May I go?"

Rule 4. Use single quotation marks for quotes within quotes. Note that the period goes inside all quote marks.

Example He said, "Mary said, ‘Do not treat me that way.’"

Rule 5. Use quotation marks to set off a direct quotation only.

Examples "When will you be here?" he asked.
He asked when you will be there.

A few more grammar rules to know, though;
After "...", you have to place a space and capitalize the first word...

Uhm, the "..." (that I can't think of the name for right now) can come in the middle of sentences and that is more for Internet effect anyway...like when you're speaking and make a pause but a comma doesn't belong and you didn't start a new sentence.

"...like when you're speaking and make a pause but a comma doesn't belong and you didn't start a new sentence," for instance, is not a complete sentence.

As far as "apparently" goes, it is an adverb and does not necessarily have to serve as an introduction. What I said was correct grammatically, what you said is correct grammatically, and there are other variations that would be correct grammatically.

It is an introductory phrase, therefore you are correct, it does need a comma. However, after attempting to call me like 5-6 times, you were correct twice. Your grammar is not that much better than mine.

As a bonus, there's no shattering of the illusion when you look round and realise that you're sitting in your bedroom hunched in front of your computer. Plus, it's cheap!

civilization II

OMG! That was the game that got me into gaming! I use to come home and play that on an old Pentium 133. I still have a copy of that, but do not play. *sigh* That game is on my all-time greats list. I put three games on that list.

Civilization II
StarCraft
Counter-Strike

Just because I found the grammar fight so entertaining I thought i'd add to it: both sets of grammar are acceptable because essentially American has become a different language to English. What's not acceptable is that they spell LASER LAZER, it's a acronym FFS! Light Amplification by Ztimulated Emission Radiation?! I think not.

Anyway FF7 is best RPG, although I do like Morrowind because I have too much free time :)

No one has mentioned Champ. Man. yet, or original FIFA on the Megadrive?

While Halo didnt introduce anything significantly new to gaming, its the best because its so damn fine and polished. The story is great, especially with the books out to give more background, the campaign levels are very different and large, the enemies are smart, vehicles and weapons are awesome, the graphics are 3 years old and still look better than a lot of games coming out today. Multiplayer is friggin awesome with it.

Ive played the Tribes 2 demo and didnt notice any aliens in it, though they may be in the full game. I just found that Halo much better done overall.

RPG: hmm... hard choice. I like different RPGs for different reasons. I used to be a huge fan of FF, but if I'd had to pick one fav, I'd say Either Morrowind or NWN (depending on my mood). Not only because they are both good games, but also because they're both easy to edit and mod for. Other games that come to my mind are ToEE, BG2, and Fallout 2.

RTS: Easy. StarCraft. There are many good RTS games out there, but none as perfect as SC. Good story, great gameplay, near perfect multiplayer. Even after all these years I haven't played a single game that is better balanced or more fun to play than this. C&C Generals would come in second, but that may only be because a friend of mine is currently in the process of developing one of the best and largest mods ever for the game. I'd plug in a link but I'm not sure if that's allowed here.

FPS: Another tough choice, though I think I'm going to have to choose for Jedi Knight 2. While there are certainly better looking and games, with better gameplay, there has not been an RTS that I enjoyed this much both in single player as in multiplayer. C&C Renegade is second, for the same reason.

Puzzle: The Incredible Machine, and all it's sequels and spinoffs. Hey, it sure as hell beats Minesweeper. :p

Adventure: And with adventure I don't mean those action-adventure/platformer games, but stuff like ZORK and Myst. Phantasmagoria 2 takes the prize here. The first time I played that I was too scared to stop playing. :D I haven't played in a long time, though...

Fighting: I'm not getting into the discussion about 2D/3D, so I'm going to put down one of each. Soul Calibur 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 2. Although I'm pretty sure I need to squeeze in a SNK and a Sammy game somewhere... :p

Other game types: Blaat. I either don't play them enough to have a valid opinion, or I just don't care too much about them.

OVERALL: StarCraft. Really, it's that simple.
I honestly prefer RPGs or Fighters over RTS games usually, but StarCraft is certainly the best game I ever had the pleasure of playing. I still play it very often, both on LANs and over Battle.net, and that should tell you a lot.

I agree with you 100%. It has so much personality for a RTS game, and the story is surprisingly engaging. That, and the three armies are so different yet so balanced... it's just beautiful... Nothing has yet surpassed Starcraft. I was sorely disappointed with Warcraft III, for instance.

Damn, lots of PC fanatics.

My favorite game of all-time is Zelda: Majora's Mask. Took everything I loved about the Ocarina of Time and added lots of side-quests, masks, gameplay and the interesting story. My favorite series is Zelda, by far.

Favorite RPG: Final Fantasy VI. Followed by Chrono Trigger. Honorable mention goes to Lufia II.

FPS: Perfect Dark. I spent so much time with this game. Great multiplayer. Too many memories.

Fighting: Killer Instinct. Fulgore being the best character as well. I'm not much of a fighting game fan. It can't be a button-masher like Tekken. Honorable mention is SSB: Melee.

Other various titles include Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Harvest Moon and many many other classics.

Best PC RPG for me was Fallout 2. I've had Planescape: Torment for a while now, but have only put about 2 hours into it. I'll get around to it.

You can't compare SC to Zelda, really. If you don't like RTS, of course SC is not going to "do" it for you... In the end, it's all personal opinion. For example, The only Zelda game I ever liked (and I've played them all, except for the Wind Waker), was Link's Awakening, and that's just because for a long time it was the only decent game I had for the GameBoy besides Tetris.

Personally, in my opionon-the best game ever is Marathon.
Halo follows closely behind.

I also have fun playing age of empires.

Personally I dont care whether it is on a console or a computer, it matters how good the game is. Halo formats the Xbox controls perfectly , IMO, it is alot more fun to have 16 people playing in the same room than 16+people playing online.
