I myself have little to say in this except for that I say "nay". It's just wrong!

Some cheer better than girls, and they're funnier...I mean...did you see that commercial with the guy-cheerleader with a tired out voice?

However, I'd much rather a GIRL cheering for me than a guy....unless the guy can get the whole audience going...hrmm

Well I have little time for the whole cheerleading thing. Its an Americanism I could easily live without. Male cheerleaders only makes it less appealing to me if that is at all possible.

Well, I wasn't a cheerleader in high school, but I ended up being the cheerleading team manager...and I got to know all of our cheerleaders.
All 27 members. Including our 5 guys. To beat down a stereotype, none of those five were gay.

They were cute, they were smart, they were strong. They were exhuberant, and they really cared about our school and the teams they cheered for. They took their responsibility as leaders of school spirit very seriously, and were top-notch at it.

In addition, their presence let our cheerleading team do certain holds and acrobatic stuff that they wouldn't have been able to do without them.

Yes, guys should be allowed to be cheerleaders, if they want to be and can handle the respobility.

Well in England we don't really get much of the whole cheerleading thing... and when we do it's usually two or three little girls who've seen too many teen movies and are just doing it for fun... ie. girls aged about 9. But I think that in everything there should be equality, where it's possible. If someone wants to do something, they shouldn't be scared to in fear of being called "queer" etc.
And ok, maybe personally some of you have a problem with it, but I don't understand why you'd want to stop someone else doing it if that's what they want!! :)

They can do what they like when they like. Just as long as I don't have to watch them do it.

Guys can have talent and the energy it takes to be a cheerleader. also, with some of the stunts that they do, they need male cheerleaders. Im all for male cheerleaders, and im a straight male. I just feel that if they want to, and have the talent, let them go for it!!

Only if they shave their legs & wear really short skirts. :D

Seriously though, didn't all-boys schools used to have male-cheerleaders or something?

Cheerleaders are more of an American institution. We don't go in for that sort of thing over here, at least not to the same extent. Some of the bigger Rugby League teams have them, I think.

Nothing would get a team of dumbass jocks more into the game spirit than seeing guys with skirts and tight tops jumping up and down with pom-poms cheering for them to win. They'd love it.

Hey buddy, I take high offense to this. I'm a cheerleader in my high school and I can tell you that me and my friends are not sluts, PERIOD!!!

As for the thread, all the college teams I've seen on TV have male cheerleaders. Though my Highschool doesn't have any guy cheerleaders, I still think that they should be!

hmmm...my school was notorious for fat, ugly cheerleaders....who couldn't cheer to save their lives- but they were still slutty

I never was into cheerleading, but I have to admit that a couple of things that the nationally ranked cheer squads can do are pretty impressive.
And yes, guys should be in the group. A couple of (semi) strong guys can do nothing but improve.

I think if girls can play football or any other sport, boys should be able to be cheerleaders.

Boys being cheerleaders?????
Soon you'll be saying that girls should be allowed in the infantry (which thankfully they are not)

Gender roles have their places, this should never be confused with gender discrimination which is a different thing altogether

I thought Israel still used females as frontline troops.

Anyway, it smacks of sexism to me- you can't discriminate against women, they should go into combat zones too. [Oh, the irony. No flames, please, that was only aprtly serious.]

There are far more male cheerleaders than female football players.

As for the front line business... the idea behind women not being allowed on the front lines is that it will wipe a race out faster if women and men are killed, and not just men. Which is stupid now that our race is proliferating beyond reasonable bounds.

There should be no problem with them doing it. I know a few male cheerleaders, and I actually know one of my friends (a female) who is on a football team.

Stop being naive,
There are several reasons why females are not used in front line combat.
Apart from the obvious physical differences, another reason is because seeing a female soldeir killed demoralises the men considerably more than just another grunt going down.

Actually seeing a female soldier getting killed will enrage the men more than a grunt going down.

Ah, so now a man dying for his country is much less traumatic than a woman dying in defense of her country. And your assumption that "Females can't be grunts because they could die", "Men=Grunts" and "Grunts =!= Females" seem to show that you have a predetermined conclusion.

If a woman signs on and is an infantrywoman, she's the one who signed on! I doubt she hasn't seen the ramifications of her actions, only an idiot joins the military without thinking about dying.

Of course, for drafting like Israel and Greece do, nobody should ideally go to frontline while drafted, but, life is life...
