Sandy Berger cleared of all charges

But is it on any of the major news sites? Noooooooooo. I found a brief mention of it here. (http://www.kyw1060.com/news_story_detail.cfm?newsitemid=39459) Nothing on CNN.com. Nothing on MSNBC.com. Nothing on Foxnews.com, although the Asman Observer (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,126522,00.html) at the bottom of the page still suggests that the elite media are allowing Berger to get away with something.

So again I ask--what liberal media? When the Berger story hit, it did so despite the fact that the investigation had been ongoing for almost a year and that Ashcroft's justice department had said no charges were even likely. It was all over the place, including here at NS. So now that Berger has been cleared, where the hell is the media coverage?

Berger--Clinton's former chief of staff who was accused of stealing documents from the National Archive in order to cover up for Clinton's "anti-terrorism failures." Except he didn't steal any documents because he never had originals and only accdentally took copies. Except that the 9/11 commission had everything that Berger ever looked at and touched. That Berger.

Because, Incertonia, this is the way it's always handled. Once the character has been assasinated, you can move on to the next one.

Making copies is usually a NONO so he should still be slapped.

That is if it is ok in this situation. I don't know.....

Um, I read the Asman Observer -- it doesn't say anything about his being cleared. Could you provide a link to that?

The copies were made by the Archives, and he was using them to refresh his memory for his testimony before the 9/11 commission. He wasn't supposed to take them, and he acknowledged that, but right-wingers and most media outlets were arguing that Berger had stolen originals and was trying to cover something up. Now that it has been resolved, nobody is talking.

He didn't say the Asman Observer said it. The first link is the story and it's the only place it's being run, whereas when the story broke and was just rumor and innuendo, it was everywhere.

I think we're misunderstanding each other:

Where did you get your original report that Sandy Berger had been cleared? Radio? Newspaper? TV?

Ah--it's from the website of that radio station linked above--KYW1060 am. I don't know anything about the station, but it sources the National Archives, the Justice Department and the Wall Street Journal.

one question for you Incertonia. If Berger didnt know he was doing anything wrong (the taking of copies out of the NA) as implied by his and his lawyers statements that he inadvertantly removed said documents, why did he stick them down his pants? Did he just not remember he had papers stuck in his pants?

Or did he not know that removing said documents was illegal? And if he didnt know that it was illegal, why hide them in his pants? ( I just cant get over that part)

He didn't stick them in his pants. Didn't happen except in the minds of right-wingers who wanted to make more of this than there was to make, right-wingers who can't breathe without wondering if the Clintons have spiked their air with mind-control chemicals.

By the way--if you looked at my comments in this thread, I noted that Berger violated protocol by removing notes from the building. He admitted that. But he didn't take any originals, and in the eyes of the justice department, he didn't violate any laws that warranted bringing charges against him.

Um... he admitted to sticking them down his pants.. in his own words.. his socks too. It wasnt made up by the right wingers, although it was used by them.

He did that because he was trying to hide them from the NA staffers on his way out. Implying that he knew what he was doing was wrong.
