Why is Kerry still collecting pay for being a senator? I heard that he has missed somewhere in the area of 85% of senate votes since he started his campaign. Anyone else who skips 85% of their work days will get fired. Why is Kerry being paid for not showing?

Why did Bush take a paycheck when he was on vacation 40% of the time? They're politicians--they can get away with it. Besides, it's not like the Senate has done anything of import this year--between the attempted nominations of crazy judges and debate on the "Gays are icky" amendment, they haven't actually accomplished anything. Kerry hasn't missed anything.

That way they couldn't walk across the state border and come back.

Actually, it would have outlawed gay marriage. The current law on the books--DOMA--is the one that does what you describe.
