The gothic subculture (like many cultures) has two distinct groups: the "true-blues" and the "wannabes". This guy is a definite wannabe.

I have a lot of friends who are goths that are not the pathetic tosser that this guy is. Here's an identification tip - if they are obsessed with suicide and/or Marilyn Manson, they are wannabes (most "real" gothic music is bands that 99% of the population has never heard of).

Unfortunately, post-Columbine, all "goths" get tarred with the same brush...just like how metalheads were demonised after James Vance topped himself listening to Judas Priest.

I haven't heard Within Temptation, but I would maybe call Nightwish "gothic-prog-metal". I've got a buddy who does the local progressive metal radio show in my town - I'll ask him his opinion next time I speak to him.

Err...on behalf of most sane teenagers (yes, we do exist), I'd like to offer an apology for that page even existing.

I see no reason to really complain about this. I personally find the "goth" lifestyle hilarious. They mope around all the time and bitch and moan about how the world is so unfair and how they're going to kill them selves all the time. The only reason they do this is because they just want pity. Logically, this would mean the mandatory detention of most people under the age of 18. It would also facilitate the permanent incarceration of Pauline Hanson.

I have been out of HighSchool about 11 years now.
We had Gothfreaks(No offense that was what they were called).
And while they did listen to similar music to my particular set.
The did kindof apprear similar to Goths now, they were not as whiny and pathetic.
I was friends with this Vietnamese kid who was a complete gothfreak(he didnt have to dye his har though) he would white his face(looked really cool actually, him being asian it had a surreal quality). He would go with me and my friends to the mall where we would set furniture on fire, or rough up preps, or what ever mindles beavis and butthead action we were into that day.
He would just accost people with bizzare statements, or sexually harrass preppy guys or jocks(he knew we would protect him) he wasnt gay mind you he just enjoyed watching people squirm, that was how he got attention paid to him, not by pissing all over himself about how poopy the world is, I hate it --stamps feet like small child----

1.)Stupidity is just as prevailent in people over 18 as it is people under 18.

Look, as a fifteen year old, and technically a teenager, I strive to cast off the aforementioned title as much as possible. I am not like most other teenagers. By this I mean that I choose to strive for attention (because we ALL do, no getting around it) through methods other than self-mutilation, suicide, breaking rules, promiscuous sex, smoking, doing drugs, and imitations thereof. I am a thinking, rational individual who in his spare time reads everything he can get his hands on, from religious history and philosophical inquiry to quantum physics (no lie). I for one find the idea that this guy classifies himself as a self-hating, self-mutilating, cutting outcast who noone understands as stupid and bullshit. More stupid than that, though, is the very idea that any group of people would do anything other than ignore it. It is, like most activities done by 'teenagers,' a cry for attention, and to give it to him will do nothing but fuel his dark, evil, black fire of, I'd imagine, despair and loneliness.

...'Teenage' isn't an age at all. It's a mindset typified by lack of judgment, stupid behavior, et cetera. I've not been a 'teenager' since I was about 12 or 13. My point is...Eh, hold on while I think it up again...Ah! I don't remember. My point was that people like this fellow, who we've made a 5 page example of, shouldn't be flaunting that they cut/are suicidal/are depressed/hate the world. Certain things are strictly don't ask, don't tell - if you tell without being asked then you're striving to be noticed, pitied, etc.

I've actually gone through that bit hundreds of times on DeviantART, as several folks slit their wrist, cut their hand or slice open their leg and expect praise for taking a goddamn snap-shot of it. On the other hand I have similar images, but not once have I gotten someone going "Dear God you need help!" because there's an artistic point of view, it's not the attention-whoring most of them do. I think I've lost my point again...o_O

The way I see it, this dude simply needs to get a real life. I read the first few entries in his blog, and all it tells me is that:

1) He has very little intellegience for a kid of his age

2) He can't entertain himself, he always wants someone else to do it.

3) He has no respect for his parents.

At 13, thats really sad. In 1 of his entries he whines about not being able to get a lip ring becuase his parents won't allow it. He says something to the effect of "And don't say that they give me everything becuase they aren't giving me this" That is just sad. He'll likely end up a 25 year old loser who lives in his car smoking weed with the minimum wage paycheck he earns from the local McDonalds.

My point was that people like this fellow, who we've made a 5 page example of, shouldn't be flaunting that they cut/are suicidal/are depressed/hate the world. Certain things are strictly don't ask, don't tell - if you tell without being asked then you're striving to be noticed, pitied, etc.

I've actually gone through that bit hundreds of times on DeviantART, as several folks slit their wrist, cut their hand or slice open their leg and expect praise for taking a goddamn snap-shot of it. I see no reason to really complain about this. I personally find the "goth" lifestyle hilarious. They mope around all the time and bitch and moan about how the world is so unfair and how they're going to kill them selves all the time. The only reason they do this is because they just want pity. I say instead of killing them, which is what they say they want, we should simply ignore them. They'll give up soon enough if people dont take notice of their "suffering and agony."

I have met very few true goths. Those that are, have reason to be. I understand that many self-harmers do these things, but I know just as many who don't. The fact is, when I used to cut myself, I didn't want to kill myself, I just wanted to die (that may be difficult to understand..).
Most of the self-harmers I have come into contact with are quiet, unassuming people, most of which you wouldn't believe were cutters.
They are generally not the rulebreakers (those are the poser goths and punks who think people will like them if they cut themselves because it makes them part of the minority).
I don't break rules, I've never smoked, done drugs, or had sex. Most of my friends haven't either.

I still mock the folks I know do it for attention. It's my place. I am/was a cutter (which is mostly why I even bothered responding...People have the wrong idea about it...) and yeah, I know it gives you a "high" if you will. A certain something extremely hard to match other ways of "coping", but it's possible. Lucky me I stopped (or was stopped, I suppose) before it became a real problem for me. I'm "an avid runner" now, and three-five miles a day works wonders, even if the feeling doesn't last and your body has Hell to pay for it later, it must be more healthy. The gothic subculture (like many cultures) has two distinct groups: the "true-blues" and the "wannabes". This guy is a definite wannabe.

I have a lot of friends who are goths that are not the pathetic tosser that this guy is. Here's an identification tip - if they are obsessed with suicide and/or Marilyn Manson, they are wannabes (most "real" gothic music is bands that 99% of the population has never heard of).

Unfortunately, post-Columbine, all "goths" get tarred with the same brush...just like how metalheads were demonised after James Vance topped himself listening to Judas Priest.

I've never gotten the whole "goth" scene..don't understand it, don't get the mentality...seems most of them are from my limited perspective...(1)Anti-Authoritarian, (2)Loners, (3) Prone to lack of respect for laws the "do as I please" mentality, (4)insistence that no one else "gets" them, even though post-adolescent insecurities are not new to the goth scene....

They never called themselves Goths nor did they desire pity or attention. These are the true "Goths" and they are nearly gone. However for those who would like to track a real one down here are some tips.

1.)They will never admit they're a Goth. Never, ever, ever, ever even if God decided to show himself by coming down, pointing a finger at them and declaring them a Goth. They would still deny it.

2.)They might dress in black and wear silver or pewter jewelry, but that won't be the only things they wear. However most of it will be throw backs to the medievil clothing styles.

3.)They don't whine, they write poetry and if you get it you'll understand. If you don't then you'll just laugh it off and go away.

4.)If they ever made a website it wouldn't have anything on it like this guy, because their websites feature underground music, jokes, pictures, and lots of sarcasam. M. Manson is NOT underground although he should have been murdered and stuffed in a coffin a long time ago.

5.)That brings us to the next clue. Real Goths hate Marilyn Manson. Just like real Atheist hate Marilyn Manson. That doofus has given us all a bad name and will suffer as soon as I come up with a working plan.

6.)Real Goths are not idiots and they have no problem exihibiting that fact.

what i find really funny is that Marilyn Manson isn't a goth. he freely admits that the way he dresses and acts is all just a performance, a costume he uses to appeal to a given market. i don't especially like his music but i think he is a brilliant guy; he's very intelligent, and has a sense of humor that none of his fans seem to share. he doesn't take any of his morbid fronting seriously, and so many "real Goths" can't understand how he actually is making them all look like chumps by showing how irrelevant their dearly-held depression is.

Granted i didnt read everything, but i am stuff like this happens in the world. And now you have my opinion about it.

What is so wrong about being a goth, true goths are not like this little punk, most are like the tree hugging hippies of late, mostly poets and artists that have darker interests. I am a writer, my subjects are vampires, werewolves, immortals, anything. I don't glorify death or suicide even if it is in my story. To me it is better to live a tortured life than die. If you live with the torture it can fuel you. Not all goths dress in all black, have black hair, wear white facepaint and black lipstick. I look mostly normal with dark blonde hair, very little makeup except light brown lipstick so my liips don't chap and I wear all kinds of colorful clothes. Don't lump all goths in the same boat. To most kids, goth is just a "thing" to be into... a group. You have your Preppies, Jocks, Nerds, Goths, and ..... the rest. most people who are really goth just fit in the last catagory, the rest. Most people I know that go through shit like this just end up as crust punks, and they're by far at least a bajillion times better than any "goth" I've ever met. This makes me sad. I know that I'm only 16, and I really haven't seen alot of crap or depresssion, but this makes me sick. I posted a comment, and now that i see that this kid is doing it for attention, it makes me sick. This 13 year old can't say that he's depressed. I mean, this is beyond the "My life is so black..." goth poetry that can be so bad that it invites ridicule (though, ridiculing someone's artistic expression can also be quite harsh). I dealt with the same thing - it made me make me what I am today, but let's not get into the trials of adolescence. As my signature implies, I dislike weakness and am all for tempering people, but this kid seems to have some legitimate problems. That figures into it, too. If he's just some melodramatic idiot, let him harden up and get over it; but between the extremity of his writing and the extremity of the response, there's more to it than simple thickening of the skin. If you temper something too fast, it can shatter.

His parents have said he could talk to them about his problems...man, are tehy in over their heads. I know where I'd start with a kid like this, but I'd need a couch and a notepad.

That is, assuming, he's not just playing it up. I'm half inclined to believe he is, but the other half wouldn't want to risk the first half being wrong. Ah, the internet...such a poor gauge of this sort of thing.

This makes me sad. I know that I'm only 16, and I really haven't seen alot of crap or depresssion, but this makes me sick. I posted a comment, and now that i see that this kid is doing it for attention, it makes me sick. This 13 year old can't say that he's depressed. Its sick to see someone talk about suicide that way, as if it's easy. Every post he says that he's depressed and going to kill himself. He gives "goths" a bad name.
Well depression doesn't select an age to start whoring at you, it just sinks in one day. He could very well be a depressed 13 year old, especially in todays world - but his outlook is very...Uhm... I'll just say that there must be someone just like him he idolizes and has exactly the same stupid comments on life, "faggit" parents, and other fellow minions. I know people like the boy, but they don't take it to extremes, and it isn't constant whoring and whining and moaning like this fellow does. Too much testosterone, I think.

this guy is really funny i'm sorry, but his web diary thing really amused me, especially the t-shirt he bought saying "you hate me coz i'm different but i hate you coz ur all the same" if you ask me its no wonder hes so depressed the t-shirt says it all he bought into just another steriotype which he aparantly hates (i'm surprised he doesn't list schitzophrenia as a hobby or expertise). however i do think we all need to look back at the people we were when we were 13 - i personnally became a Kurt Cobain revivalist - we all go these fases - crazes if you will - and then get over them a year later. some people take these things to more extreem levels like our new friend here but give him a few years, if he doesnt finally succeed in killing himself (i doubt he will coz he would have done it by now), he'll be laughing at himself just like we're laughing at him now :D

I never said those that drink the blood are trying to be "creatures of the night" The drinking of blood is almost a sexual thing, intimate. It is a little of your life's fluid that another is drinking and it is about feeling you have that tiny bit of power over them. Vampirism in it's true form, stripped of it's mythology is about sex and power over some one else. It's also a damn good way of catching Hepatitas B. Not particuarly clever.

Everyone else, my four main reasons I reckon this journal is a hoax:

1. His constant use of "White Wolf" as vampire mythology.

2. No Goth would admit listening to Good Charlotte.

3. The fact that, while the spelling's appalling the sentence construction is perfect.

4. The comment about mowing the lawn- "I cut nothing but myself" is far too stereotypical to not be conscious.

That is why I go get my blood checked every 3 months. So far a very clean bill of health. There are very few people I let taste my blood, and even fewer that I taste from myself. We are constantly monoring each other, getting our blood check and everything. When we blood let, it is just barely more than a scratch from a sterile blade. After it is over, the wound is thouroughly cleaned with disinfectant and bandaged. We go about this intellegently, seeing that one of us is a doctor.
