u guys dont know sh!t.
hendrix is over rated.
spinal tap are good,Led Zeppelin are much better.
but what about
Whitesnake or UFO
Tygers of Pan Tang or Endymion (visit www.endymion.tk for more info)
or the great stadium rockers Guns n' Roses.
cant forget Chuck Berry or the Beach Boys or the Beatles or the Rolling Stones.and what about the Darkness or the Datsuns.sure, Oasis are pretty sh!t but mod rockers were always bad...
then ther'e bands like iced earth or iron maiden altho I will leav metallica out coz they were the biggest mistake in musical history.
and i must also include the unsurpassed greatness that is Thin Lizzy...
so u c, it is quite impossible to decide who is the best simply becoz they are all wonderful, well those that deserve credit.

The fact that you mentioned Whitesnake completely discounts the rest of your statements.

As I walk through the blackened forest
Thoughts of hate and anger fill my soul
The charred remains of the holy rollers
Scream repentance though it's far too late

I fight back the laughter at what I see
The suffering healers false destined prophecy

He didn't think yesterday of the end of his life
The brainwashed fools born again of a thousand lies

Hate filled screams break the silence
Terrifying dreams filling up your head
Blasphemy thrusting out, in the masses it reigns
The mask of hypocrisy is slowly unveiled

Fear the angels holocaust, they're screaming
Dreams of pain forever entering your head
Death and hatred loathing, on mankind it feeds
Earth is dead and gone now, we've brought it to an end

For the last time I've been betrayed
Never again will I subject myself to this hypocrisy
Something is drawing me to the other side
Only time will tell my true destiny

why is it everytime someone posts one of these things, it ends in a slagging match between people, yes some bands are better than others but for eff's all music is good to someone, i don't care for Rap or RnB (the new stuff) but someone likes its orse they wouldn't make it, were never gonna agree on these things

Best band (old school). . .ultimately, I'd have to say Aerosmith just because they're eternal--they've been around since '73 (which, I might add was the premier of arguably THE rock anthem, Dream On) and are still releasing good music. I count over 30 hits total throughout their career. . .plus, Steven Tyler is a rock GOD.
Best band (new age). . .without a doubt, Linkin Park. Why? Because they have the ability to pound out hits (at least four per album) that convey a powerful message without using any profanity or vulgarity what-so-ever. Plus, their beat is kickin'.

Favorite band (old school). . .probably Bon Jovi just because I like the sounds and their not overly spotlighted so they have an air of being a powerful band whose lyrics are very sincere as well as not being prodded to step up to the plate with a new hit every other month.
Favorite band (new age). . .not a band, but. . .Sarah McLachlan just because she has such an AMAZING voice! Such power and range in such a slight frame is just astounding. And, "Angel" has got to be one of the best slow songs of all time.

Other notables: Metallica, Led Zepplin, Def Leppard, KISS, Poison, and Disturbed

Seems to me this thread hs more biased and opinionated answers, rather than fact. For facts, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles. I like none of the those bands, but based on record sales, and popularity, many people would consider them the best bands. But there isnt really a "Best Band" which kind of makes this thread inaccurate. But hey, i rely on opinions more anyway :D

Dear God. Half the band is dead and that isn't stopping them. I suppose that means those still alive get a larger share of the royalties though. Anyone interesting playing bass for them or just some nameless/faceless drone?

The Rolling Stones
U2
Jimi Hendrix
Simon & Garfunkel (Paul Simon is also seriously under-rated as a solo-artist)
I guess the Beatles should rate a mention, even though I'm not a big fan myself
BB King
Eric Clapton
Queen
Pink Floyd
Johnny Cash
The Pogues
Janis Joplin
Elvis Presley (don't think much of his music, but you can't deny the influence he had on popular culture)
Bob Dylan
Johnny O'Keefe
The Animals

Good boy. But you forgot Led Zepplin. And Meat Loaf.

I'm quite certain someone's already stated Hendrix so I won't bother. Then there's Roy Orbison, and Bob Dylan, and Deep Purple, and QOTSA, and Blondie, and... I could be here all day... The Ramones...

I personally like:
The Get Up Kids
Dashboard Confessional
Thursday
Fugazi
Bright Eyes
Further Seems Forever
Brand New
The Promise Ring

There other bands that I can't think of. O and btw, it's my music so don't make fun of me by calling me a "whiney emo fag" or a "little wuss". You don't see emo kids going out and saying "f**k metal, metal sucks ass!, etc."

Oh, well, considering we're all voting more than one....

Nirvana.
Led Zeppelin.
Pink Floyd.
Soundgarden.
Queens of the Stone Age/Kyuss
Rage Against the Machine (Love 'em or hate 'em, they have a unique sound that no band can match)
Sonic Youth.
Dead Kennedys.
Radiohead.

Those will do :)

Actually, At my school, I copped shit from the emo people who told me that the music I listen to sucks...which in hindsight is pretty hypocritical. Whenever I bag emo though, the emo people have a cry...why? I guess the world is too insensitive

But, Fugazi are good.

* Bluetip

The first time I saw Bluetip (back in '99) was the best time out of the three or four times I saw them - they had a short second guitarist who was just fantastic to watch back then, but he wasn't playing with them on any of the European tours after that.

I can't say I was at all impressed with RetiSonic though.
