I'm only on and off right now. There isn't much going on for me to participate it so I mostly come back to post once in a thread then disappear for a few days. These aren't the 10 hours days I once logged here. You should watch this thread, I think you'll find what I have to say here interesting or at least amusing.

So anyway, how've you been?

I've been doing pretty well. Tribes 1 was recently released for download and I've been playing it a lot. Got a clan match coming up soon that I need to prepair for, but I'm kind of putting it off because I'm not doing so hot today.

On the topic of watching threads, what do you think of this idea: Are you familiar with the "friends" page from Livejournal? If you are you'll know that it is a page that include the most recent posts from other users who you have identified as your friends. I think a similar system could be used on a forum like this one such that you could have a single page on which the recent posts of people you are interested in hearing from are displayed. You could also put in threads that you want to watch so that the page would have every post by certain people and in certain threads and you wouldn't have to go searching through the forum for things people have said or threads you've posted in.

Get Soldner... at least the free beta. It is probably the best FPS ever created... although you'd need a pretty powerful machine to run it.

And the only problem with that "friends" page... is if you have friends that are massive spammers... Yeah... so thats why I'm personally not too wild about an idea like that... But I s'pose its not too bad idea genrally speaking.

I've heard good things about Soldner, but I have a hard time transitioning from Tribes to other FPSes because of the differences in mobility. The jet pack and extreme mobility of Tribes is what drew me to it in the first place. I've never enjoyed another FPS as much because they're all too restrictive. I don't like the games where aiming and firing are the most important parts, Tribes allows a skilled manipulator of the jet pack and general movement to be as good and better than a perfect shot. The bots from Tribes 1 are a perfect example of this in action. They have perfect aim like moving turrets, but you can usually kill them without taking any damage because of the mobility afforded by the jet pack. I've got a fast enough machine to run Soldner, and I'll probably check it out, but my standards are pretty specific and very high so I can't have that much hope for it.

What Soldner has going for it is intense realism. If you get spotted by an enemy usually either he or you die. And the physics are realistic so that a couple of hits will usually kill the enemy. You'll never find yourself running at an enemy strafing back and forth emptying a clip. And sniping is extremely satisfying in Soldner because if you get a good location even if your aim is horrible you'll still get some kills.

And the destructive enviorment is kick ass... cause you can create anything from roadblocks for tanks and sniper's nests. Oooh and the fact that if you elect a good commander he can give the snipers targets is also pretty cool.

Vehicle controls are kind bad though...

I still have only teh beta though...

I've been sniping a bit in Tribes and it's the same way. If you find a good spot you'll do well regardless of your skill level, which is fun. I've gotten pretty good at finding those good spots though I'm still pretty bad at hitting moving targets. The new physics engines like Havoc 2 are really impressive. I can't wait for Half Life 2 even though it doesn't have some of the nice things that Tribes has it's still going to be amazing. It's entirely unscripted and everything in the entire environment is dynamic, the videos I've seen are unbelievable.

Where can you download the beta for Soldner?

Put soldner into google and you get the official site probably as the first result...

And meh... Half Life 2 is irrelevant what I want is Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines which is powered by the HL2 engine... so it can't come out until after HL2.

Don't worry it used to be before March only a couple months ago. If your in the middle of the year just wait maybe half a year or so and you may lose the status of newbie.
