The Last Days
How do you think the world will end?
I took the liberty of transplanting posts from the topic I screwed up in.Hmm I think that in about five or six billion years from now, the Sun will deplete the hydrogen in its core and begin a quick march toward its ultimate fate as a white dwarf. Along the way, the Sun's core will contract and grow hotter, while its outer layers expand and cool. The Sun will grow to many times its current size, swallowing Mercury, Venus, and Earth in the process of becoming a red giant. Luckily, no multicelllular species we know of can survive for billions of years anyway, so humans likely won't be around to see it.

Like in Armageddon, how it was going to end.
there are too many possibilities
- Destruction by God depending on what religon is true (don't go too far into this atheists)
- Sun..."blowing" up
- Meteor impact
- Human weapon (think: "The Core" movie)
- moon crashing back down (I hear from scientists that it's going away and coming back...damn mixed results!)
The world as we know it will end by technology. Either genetically engineered post-humans (think coördinators from Gundam SEED) will shatter any concept of racial equality and rule over us or AIs will kill or enslave us.
I dont think we will destoy ourselves with some huge nuke or something. Nah. We can't be THAT stupid....
I am a athiest, so being lightninged down by God, Jena, Zeus or whoever, no. Won't happen either.
Global warming or other disasters will we threats, but they won't wipe out humanity on the instant. Maybe some flooded continents... but that will be all.
As stated before, when the sun decides to blow itself up we wont be around anymore because no species will survive that long. Or maybe... oh i'll come back to that
So I think that eventually we will somehow be destoyed by a thread from outer space. Maybe an army of invading aliens, or a comet (yes I believe in aliens! :))
Or, we might continue to be around for ever... it will be very hard to destroy all of us when we start living on mars, the moon, and later other planets in our galaxy. We might be a super-alienlike specie! Who knows!!!
Not much use thinking about any of this now, though, because we sertainly won't experience end of humanity.
I hope.

I've never heard of an AI takeover plot that made sense, unless it was a malfunctioning AI or one acting in self-defense.

Someone nukes USA/some other country with a twitchy trigger finger, they nuke everyone else. The End. lol hopefully not but could happen
lol or the apes could rise up and take the planet from us...doubtful

I think George Carlin once made a reference that when the planet is finally sick of us humans screwing things up, it will shake us off like a bad case of fleas.
My own opinion is kind of along the same lines. I think some disease will spring up that will take care of it.

I think some disease will flare up and pretty much destroy most of civilization (not life). Seeing how SARs was dealt with (a bit bungled, but it didn't become an epidemic of say Spanish Flu proportions) this fear is somewhat alleviated, but SARs wasn't really that lethal. I'm thinking along the lines of an airborne ebola type disease.

Good point. There's already the MRSA 'superbug' in Britain's hospitals, and its damn hard to get rid of (i dunno if everyone knows what MRSA is, its a virus (i think) that can infect pretty much anyone, even if you go in to hospital with nothing wrong with you you can be infected, and there isn't a cure for it yet)
Humanity will end when we blow each other up.
The Earth wil end due to either the Sun expanding into a Red Giant, Black Hole, etc.

Reynes present the only reasonable to the actual asked question in the Poll.
However, I believe that man will be long gone by then. Comet or ourself and maybe combined with something like global warming, who can really say? Many ways that mankind can end.

oh yeah, it says the world...oops
Anyway, it'll probably be something to do with something from space, doubt humans will have the power to totally destroy the world for a while, yes i know, everyone has nukes, but they can't destroy everything, unless you count 'the world' as most humans and the surface of the planet
I dunno how, but SOMEhow we're gonna fuck ourselves over

I think that after a few crappy years Jesus will come and take all the nice people up to heaven, then bomb the living hell out of all the bad people back on earth. That is, if we don't destroy ourselves first.

Two words: Exit Mundi. (http://www.xs4all.nl/~mke/exitmundi.htm)
That should be a fairly comprehensive set of apocalyptic scenarios.
Now whether we're going to be sacked by any of those?
Quite frankly, I don't even bother with trying to figure out what's going to be FIVE years from now, let alone five billion. I'll extrapolate for stories and job interviews, but as for predictions for which I'll actually be held liable? Sorry. Seen too much of exogenist, transhuman, singularitarian, and the like, to expect anything lasting for long enough for anything other than our own damn selves doing the job, and in short order - we aren't going to be vulnerable for -that- much longer, unless people are orders of magnitude more stupid than the same number of cows.

Well, it sure as hell won't be because the sun explodes. Sheesh. Global warming is a short-term issue that is only a threat to current life forms.
The Earth will end when the sun becomes a red giant, assuming we (or another species) are unable or unwilling to move it.
As for humanity's fate... who knows? Extrapolation is nearly impossible.

We will destroy ourselves given enough time. We might blow up the world or overpop. it and kill ourselves by not having enough resorces. But I would have to say it won't end because the sun exploded or died out. (by the way nice happy subject :) )

First off- Humanity is not the world- if all humans instantly died right now, the world would continue. Really, are we that arrogant?
Second off- The sun doesn't explode. It expands into a red giant and then contracts into a white dwarf, after which in maybe a trillion years it will cool down to a black dwarf and eventually dissapate- by that time the Gas Giants will have been destroyed or have fallen away.
Now- Bah! You think that the end of Earth is the end?
The universe ends in 10^[10^26] to 10^[10^76] years from now, during which all will have been absorbed into Black Holes in the heat death.
Give it even longer and Hawking radiation will break the black holes down, and all will be 'gone' as we know it.
That is the end.

Oh wait I was thinking too much into just the human world. If you mean the Earth itself (the hunk of rock) then probley from an astroid or comet. Ether way we wont be here to see it :) You could also say the world has ended already for many species. And as far as and astroid it would have to be very big because something small would only wipe out most of life (u know like the dino therory and what realy gets me is some people claim that we are creating a mass extention that rivals it)
I guess the topic needs clarification. How will the world as we know it be destroyed?
How do you think the world will end?
Not with a bang, but a whimper.

I think humanity will something like this: A virus wipes out all the cats and dogs on the planet. Humans, with their need for non-human companionship, begin to keep apes as pets. We train to become our servents. However, they begin to develop even more intelligence than they already possess and rebel against us. We use nuclear weapons and the sun sets on humanity with Charlton Heston on his knees in the sand screaming "Damn you! Damn you all to Hell!!!!!!"
Or not.
