ClearChannel: A Good Candidate for a Monopoly Lawsuit?

The town I live in is owned by ClearChannel. They own every radio station except our Public Radio channel.

This wouldn't be so bad, except that it has homogenized our radio broadcasts, and about two years ago, there was a train derailment. You ask, "What does this have to do with ClearChannel?". Good question.

The train in question was carrying anhydrous ammonia. This is a dangerous chemical. There was a cloud of anhydrous blanketing the low areas. People woke up in the smell of ammonia, some were overcome by the fumes. There was nothing on the radio to say what was going on. You see, all of the stations were on auto-pilot. This is a policy of ClearChannel. That late at night, there isn't anyone manning the stations. The authorities couldn't reach anyone to make an announcement.

I won't be surprised if ClearChannel isn't named in the class-action lawsuit along with Canadian Pacific railroad, because their negligence created a dangerous situation.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is thoroughly sick of ClearChannel, and the way they've robbed the personality from radio, making it just one more big, faceless conglomerate. A monopoly, really.

ClearChannel is just asking for it; someone, somewhere, must be thinking about filing a lawsuit.

They killed our local rock scene (what there was of one) in Dallas by taking away the only rock station here and turning it into the soothing sounds of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. All this to crush two other stations owned by a rival brodcasting company. Alright, in business that's what you do. But the radio...we now have five stations playing almost all the same crap.

Hey, I'm not saying that our radio scene wasn't already inundated with crappy pop and mediocre programming, but now it's the same mush everyone else is getting. They own this town. It's a shame, really.

We are getting somewhere, though. The next town over has an independent station. I think it's some guy in his basement, but at least it's something with a bit of character. He plays some B-side material, and some stuff that didn't make it to the top 40 of blandness.

Yeah, I do rather hate that a lot of the music on the radio is played over and over!!! I mean, I like a lot of the music, but come on, there's more that Metalica and the Allman Brother's out there!

I do have one ClearChannel station that I like, but I can only stomach so much of them. One nice thing they do though, is every Sunday, they have a local guy come in and play blues music...it's pretty cool!

But otherwise, I wish ClearChannel would die!!!
