A thread that's not related to America. Let's vilify the evil Russian Army!

I notice that all thre threads here are about America. Supporting Bush, criticising him, criticising/discussing his issues, or the Iraq war. The US is not the only country in the world whose military commits atrocities.

For this reason I have started this thread to stand up against the Russian Army's brutal tactics in Chechnya. They have shown a horrific disregard for human life to make even the US army that attacked Fallujah look like the Fresno Peace Group.

The Chechen's desire for independence is legitimate. Why is the Russian government so ardent in its oppression of the people there?

Impeach the dictator Vladmir Putin. Get the troops out of Chechnya.

Lets not. The Russians are good people. Just Putin is a tad bit weird.

The Russian people don't equal the Russian army. Just like you can diss Bush all you like and still like most Americans.

Oops, sorry, I wasn't supposed to bring up the US.

What do you think would happen to the Chechen people if they were freed? They are surrounded by Russia, so anything they bring in through land the Russians could technically charge for.
Chechnya has no industry nor way to have an economy.
The land is terrible.
The result would be a starving third world nation.
Even though the Russians aren't making things better, they'd still be in deep trouble without them.

And why? Because the Russian Army destroyed it all! Grozny is a pile of rubble because of their relentless assaults.

it's got terrible land that the Russians didn't do anything to, and not enough people to be self sufficient even if their industry wasn't burned. They still need to get the base materials, which they don't have the money for, to have an industry.

The French and The US will have arguements and issues forever because we're both proud, arrogant and wanna be do gooders.

But if anyone ever touches France, you can bet that the US will be there to support them 100%, same with France if anyone ever touches us.

I'll never hate France...I don't like what they do sometimes, but disagreeing with a friend on some issues doesn't mean they cease to be your friends.

Of course, on this message board and many other message boards people go way overboard with their arguements.

That said...

Just like Liberals to only mention the Army and not the terrorists. Did you guys all forget the Chechens that took over the theater and had women strapped down with bombs? How about the Apartment buildings they blew up?

Just like the prison scandel, you mention the pictures of the guy with a dog collar but not the video of a civilian getting his head chopped off.

EDIT FOR ADDITION: All the while you're sitting at home watching it on TV while those soldiers are living it.

I forgive the Russians anything they do in Chechnya..

This I feel strongly about. They had no right to secede violently in the first place, so Yeltsin tried restoring order. The situation escalated, and things got hairy. However, Chechens have committed crimes inside Russia, and they've even tried launching military operations near Rostov. Russia, like any nation, has a right to defend itself, and regain its territory.
Besides, if it becomes independent, it may become a base for terrorists, as some have suggested that al-Qaeda may regroup there. At least the Red Army is keeping the heat on.

I'm planning on joining the U.S. AF Academy so that I may get a university-level education AND serve the military following!

Aren't they still calling themselves the Red Army? They still use the Red Star in their military symbology.

Nope. The Red Army was the army of the Soviet Union. As far as I know they are now the Army of the Russian Federation.

The term Red Army actually stopped being used in the official name in 1948 I think...I believe they just say the Soviet Army, and now the Russian Army. Red Army is probably just from nostalgia and the glory of defeating Germany and conquering half of Europe...not bad...

Anyway, I have to support the Russians in their actions against Chechnya...even if heavy handed....

Perhaps. But it's fun to call them the Red Army. Besides, quite a few people are more familiar with the name, and it sounds more fearsome than the whimpy sounding "Army of the Russian Federation".

I admit I haven't studied the subject very well, does anyone know just WHY they was to break off from Russia? What's their beef?

I thought they had semi-autonomy and a decent set-up...then things just went up into a full blown war.

From what I've heard Russia itself doesn't want them breaking off because it would weaken the morale of Russia further to lose terriroty, and that there are significant oil reserves in the region. Anyone have specifics?

I'd just like to say that chechnyans make execution videos where they behead Russian soldiers.

And they do them well, not crappy like the Iraq execution videos.

Isn't the Chinese Army called the Red Guard? or am i just making that up?
Anyway, i support the Russians, even if they only pay their conscripts something like $3 a month(think i saw something about it on a documentary, so it might not be right or accurate, so feel free to correct/mock me)
