Democrats Nail First Night (Convention)

This was like the Super-Bowl for me...lol

They nailed it. Gore was great! Carter was fabulous and Clinton just kind of made every one else look small. A true giant for sure.

Reminds me of that old Bob Dylan song "The Times They Are A Changing"

If I was a Bush supporter or a right-winger, I think I'd be a little worried right around now. Clinton single handily nailed the democratic policy platform. The man hasn't lost a step!

Bravo.. I can't wait for the next few days. I just can't imagine how the Republicans are going to be able to defend their case..

I think Bill Clinton said it best.. "The Republicans need the country divided to win, the democrats don't! "

Damn straight. The Big Dog howled tonight. His line about "When I was in office, the Republicans were a little mean to me" was just terrific, as was his repetition of the "Send Me" line. I streamed it so I wouldn't have to hear any of the retarded pundits--did you catch the Reverend Alston's bit about serving on a swift boat with Kerry? It was glorious.

I was clapping and cheering listening it to it in my home, heehee. I did think it was really good. I watched parts of it with my family who teased me a little for being so enthusiastic. I am really looking forward to the next few days though :)

Yes, totally.. and Clinton also made some brilliant play on words using that swift boat to explain Kerry.. One thing no one can argue with, Kerry will not go into the night, he's always been a fighter and by the looks of it, always will be. I can't wait for Edwards & Kerry's speech!

Hell, I can't wait to hear Dean's speech tomorrow, and whenever Barack Obama speaks as well.

In the other thread about the convention on the forum here.. I can smell the fear.. can you feel it? You don't get the right to make responses like that unless they're worried.. and as said, I think they have good reason to be! I'm still rushing from Clinton's speech. All I could think of was how very small the Republican party looked to me after that speech!

Err...Stephistan had made that comment to Colodia earlier...so yes...practice what you preach...

Anyway, I like how Clinton mentioned that Bush avoided Vietnam, but also admitted to skipping out on it himself. That's the difference between Dems and Repubs.

I saw it, and really, it was nothing more than a liberal love fest. But hey, all conventions are.

I said it to him because he made an unacceptable thread.. I, on the other hand am just happy and excited. The two were non-related. ;)

Hehe, like any one here expects you say any thing different. It was GREAT!

Yeah, I did like the way Clinton did that. Admitted that tax breaks for the rich benifitted him and all that. He is a sleazy guy, but he admits it... lol

Actually I did like Hillary's sheech... she avoided being scathing about introducing her husband and focused on Kerry. The audience seemed to like it, but they liked everything...

I know, I wouldn't say much different. But tonight was the love fest, and decisive speeches weren't made. The real night of interest is Wensday, when Kerry speaks. Now this is an election year, and since I don't have debate club this summer, my usually open mind is closed. However, for that one night, I need to pry it open. Because even though I want Bush to win, I'll have to make sure that I like Kerry enough that I can live with him for the next four years. However, if he's elected, I gurantee you that these next four years will be his last.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on that ;)

So, were there any major policy differences with the Republicans or was it merely a matter of presentation?

Stem cell research... international accountability and respect... tax breaks for the rich... elections decided by the people not the supreme court... job loss... healthcare ... the environment, logging etc... education... the domestic nuclear weapons policy... AIDS... renewable energy sources... benefits for veterans... police funding... more terror combating and less terror scares...

Lots was said :)

oh I am sure lots were said ... but he was asking a lot of the REAL differences?

Meaning on both sides there is a lot of talk when they essentialy saying almost the same thing

I could merely do the same to the Republicans.

I think it really shows the state of the Democratic party when you have to rely on the old dogs. You have Carter, who wasn't even allowed within a hundred miles of a convention podium because of the mess he caused finally being allowed to speak. You have Gore throwing out conspiracy theories, upset that Bush "stole" the election. You have Hillary Clinton introducing us to her husband, like we really need an introduction, and you have the grand master of all slick politicians Bill Clinton himself.
The thunder of the Democratic convention has come and gone. I'm kinda looking forward to my nap time Thursday night when Kerry is going to put me to sleep.

Soo the same but they don’t want to admit it

thank GOD for C-span. i finally realized that i could watch the convention without the idiot reporters talking stupid over it.

that has to be the best speech clinton ever made. i loved the way he showed what the tax cuts are costing us.

its time that the democratic party stood up proudly for all the good things they have brought to this country. all of the great social legislation of the past 80 years have been passed because of them.

this thing is kerry's to lose, let's hope he give a great acceptance speech. we cant afford another 4 years of bush

Rely on the old dogs? Do you honestly think that if Reagan wasn't dead and incoherent that the Republicans wouldn't trot him out? Give me a freaking break.

Clinton was a two-term President. Carter is a Nobel Laureate. Gore ought to be running for re-election. They all deserved spots in the limelight, and they all kicked ass.

That's not going to stop them from trotting him out anyway, in substance. They are SO going to go for the sympathy/sentimental run. And, isn't Nancy scheduled to speak?

I'll take your statement to mean you didn't watch any of it.. They never mentioned Bush's name once.. They didn't bash Bush once, they talked policy difference, which is what they should be doing. There is a difference between saying some one is way out to lunch on policy and just saying some one is out to lunch period.

I, think they nailed it last night and I look forward to them nailing it for the next three nights!

It's a tail chasing manuver they pull. "The Democrats are nothing but negative...." when it was the republicans that spent $10 million in tax payer money to go after what eventually became Clinton's sex life, have released personal attacks on anyone who dares to speak against the DECISIONS of the Bush administration, and are at, what, a three to one ratio of negative ads currently?

But they just keep saying it, because if you say something enough times it becomes true. Just like thier cry wolf of liberal bias, eventually it will wear thin. At least I can hope.

They didn't say Bush's name, but there was no way they were referring to anyone else but him. They referred to him as "This Administration," and "this administration" took a pounding.
