Who is speaking tonight? Gore and Clinton? Right? Well...if I have any opinions (or when the Republicans want to come slam/flame after the speeches), I'll post them here in a few hours...
Opal Isle

...okay, just now I was watching CNN and Howard Dean was being interviewed and asked about presenting a positive message in the speeches at the DNC and he responded with something to the effect of:
"Oh, I definitely think we should be presenting a positive message here. Everyone already knows what George W. Bush has done to this country--created a trillion dollar debt, getting us into a war that we don't know why because he didn't tell us..."
Now...I'm going to be voting for Kerry...but Dean is a freaking self-contradicting moron...
Incertonia
27-07-2004, 00:43
There's no contradiction there--he was saying that the convention will be upbeat because everyone else already knows the bad stuff. And it will be. But Dean at the time wasn't part of the convention--he was being asked what the convention will be like.

As to the schedule, I know for certain that Gore and Clinton will be speaking, and I think Carter will be as well. The big fireworks ought to be tomorrow night when Ron Reagan Jr. takes the stage to talk about stem cell research.

I can see your point, but right now, Dean and the others who aren't on the ticket are the attack dogs so Kerry and Edwards don't have to do the dirty work themselves. That's standard for this part of the campaign.

Okay...now there is a "professional blogger" (Ana Marie Fox) on CNN talking to Anderson Cooper and I think they're both high because no one knows what they're talking about, including themselves...

I loved Gore's speech! He would have been one freaking awesome prez.

Hillary's speech was good... I've read here that other Dems weren't too impressed by it... but I thought she did a good job of promoting Kerry (the point of the convention) and avoiding mentioning her husband, whom she was introducing, overmuch. She's a good politician... a good speaker... and I generally agree with her ideas.

She's just a little crazy.

Haha, 2008-20016! Another four years of the Clinton administration! Rock on! Hillary would be even better than Bill because she probably wouldn't get caught up in any scandals.

Anyway, Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy and Teresa Heinz Kerry are up tonight. I'm looking forward to it.

I thought they couldn't sing worth crap, but um it's a nice idea. (edit: but no, I'm not KKK)

Most of the entertainers they have there are lousy. I was looking forward to Maya Angelou and she was the worst speaker :\ (although not quite as bad as the ones who came just before her). I dunno, I'm looking forward to Dean and Reagan.

Free speech
I didn't say he shouldn't have and he needs to be arrested. I said he didn't need to and it wasn't smart politically to say what he said. I can say you are the biggest idiot in the world due to free speech, but does that make it a good idea?
Opal Isle
28-07-2004, 01:54
Heh, O'Rielly isn't that smart is he?

While he offered to sacrifice his own life to secure Fallujah, he said he wouldn't sacrifice his child or anyone else's child...totally missing Moore's point. Bush isn't sacrificing his life, he is sacrificing the life of America's future--whether the cause is just or not is debatable, but not part of this question.

Teresa lied. It is not how she said it, it is the fact she lied. Just like McGovern with his 1000% until the polls came in. I saw both and I heard both. Among others. Kerry threw his medals away while I was earning mine. I still have mine. I am not ashamed of what I have done in the military as I did what was moral, ethical and by any court, legal. Kerry apparently has an issue. That sets him up for scrutiny by US courts and war crimes by Viet Nam. Calley faced the accusations. Kerry at least facilitated war crimes (if they occured as Kerry is apparantly the only living witness and therefore the only person who could have done the war crime) just the same as the nazi generals. This is convoluted simply because of the story line presented by Kerry himself. Kerry needs a trial lawyer, Edwards will work. Except in criminal trials you have to prove your assertions... What she said that the reporter questioned her about. It doesn't matter which newspaper he worked for, it matters that you are accountable to both sides of the people if you want your mate to be elected. Unfortunately Bush has been able, yes to skate on tech. ask Edwards about that. Having watched the convention in Chicago on TV and the riots of the period, I remember the lies of Teddy Kennedy, Cater, Mondale, Hart, Gregorie, Boxer, Dukakis both Clintons, if they would just stick to the truth and keep their mouths shut otherwise. I might believe a democrat again. (insert turtle)
