I don't know about you guys, but I can't hardly wait for the '04 Presedential debates...I wonder if Bush will demand to have his Veep with him...(although, that'd probably hurt him because Kerry would obviously then get Edwards with him...I wouldn't want to debate against Edwards...)

I'd be scared to debate against John F. Kerry (JFK reference?) and another John...I mean...they're probably mentally connected or something.

I think the debates will be interesting. As stupid as Bush appears, he was declared "winner" of all three debates against Gore. Don't necessarily listen to the hype about Bush being dumb. Just because he's not as charasmatic as Clinton doesn't mean he isn't smart

I actually think the Kerry/Edwards is quite perfect. I don't think the Democratic party could have made a better pairing. All I know is that if Kerry does well, Edwards will have a definite chances of being President around 2012 (IF Kerry does well enough to get elected and re-elected...)

I'd also like to see Nader get to debate with them. Not because I want Nader to be president, but just to throw in the third opinion forcing them to counter that opinion as well...

I doubt it. The democratic party has a boner for Hillary Clinton

I agree. Nader would definitely help the debates in more ways than one, but i think the point you made is most important.

If she tries for it, I don't think she'll get nominated. She's not even playing a major role in the DNC this year.

True, but the people love her for some reason (do you get the picture yet i don't?) and they made Kerry give her a spot. Polls already show democrats want her to be the next nominee.

I think you have that backwards--the Republican party has a boner for Hillary, because if she runs, they can get the rich nutjobs like Scaife to empty their wallets again.

To the main topic, while I have no doubt that Bush's handlers and their media minions will try to lower expectations to the point where Bush will come off as a genius if he doesn't come out drooling, it'll be tougher this time, mainly because he's the President. He's got to look like he actually knows what the hell is going on, even if he doesn't. And this time around, there will be plenty of people on the outside calling Bush on his performance, no matter what the insiders try to spin.

That's a good point that a lot of people are going to say he was an idiot no matter what...but the question is, do they really matter? They already don't like Bush. Debates target voters who haven't made their mind up yet

But they can sway people who have already made up their minds.

Yeah I'm gonna watch should be good but man it really blows they won't let third parties in on it like the lp and nader. There is a movement to change this and a site for it but I can't remember the site. That would be much better.

I kind of doubt that. if you've waited this long to pick a candidate, you hopefully stay away from all the hype. I envision the people who wait for the debates want to know what the candidates views are, not what everyone else thinks; they've been hearing that for the past five months

I'm for including candidates who are on the ballots in all 50 states. For instance, I'd be in favor of including Badnarik from the Libertarian party, but not Nader, at least not this time around. I figure if your party has gotten ballot access in all 50 states--no small feat, mind you--then you deserve a seat at the table in the debates.

I watched the debates 4 years ago even though I was only 14...
I take interest in civilized debate and so I watch it. I feel pretty confident that I've made up my mind about voting for Kerry, but if Bush impresses me, I may just have to vote for him...(although his track record shows I won't be impressed...)

Ya gotta puts in a lock box...

I'll say i'm voting for Bush this fall, but wouldn't it be funny to just replace him with will ferrel? Talk about someone who could smooth relations over with other countries...think of all the nigerian leaders he could name!

I don't think Bush ever actually said it, but I did almost piss myself when I saw Will Ferrell do it on SNL. That may be the only time I've ever laughed out loud at one of his jokes. Am I the only person who doesn't find him funny?

John Kerry is the rare candidate with the charisma to make even Al Gore seem likeable.

Regardless of your stance on the issues, his smarmy liberal arrogance is going to turn off alot of people when they actually see him talk.

I want to see Cheney and Edwards in the Vice Presidential Debate. It will be like
seeing Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker battle it out.

This Luke Skywalker would have sued his own parents to get R2.

Bush's track record is so bad, that If Kerry starts slinging mud, Bush isnt going to have much left to say.

If I were Bush, who clearly is not the mental equal of Kerry, I would be very afraid of this debate.
