It's windows for me, just because i like pc games and that's what they make 'em for. if it wasn't for compatibility issues, i would go with linux.

Depends on the usage.

Linux rules for coding, although I've never been able to get it any version to install right on my box.

For daily computer usage (Internet, word processing, games, etc.), Windows is easiest just because it's got the most selection. Of course, Mac and Linux present an advantage as they are not nearly as virus prone.

Linux makes me cry. My friend has it. She tells me how much it sucks. Mac...just...Mac is crap. Hence the name "Crapple."

I'd rather take my chances against the viruses.

You guys are tools.. Have you ever even used a mac? I love your arguments..

"Mac...just...Mac is crap" Yeah.. that's an intelligent argument. At least provide some sort of justification for your opinion.

Windows is absolute shit, especially XP. It's bulky, unstable, and ugly as shit. Not to mention it's "virus prone." Linux is great because, if you know what you're doing it's super fast, and very stable. Mac is my choice however. Because I know too little to keep linux running smoothly, and because I actually do something with my computer, other than playing games. Mac's take it home for anything to do with multimedia/graphic/web design. And, contrary to popular belief by windows users, the Mac game market is quite big, and getting bigger. Last year was their best year yet with more original games being made, and more games being ported over, quicker.

But this is the never ending argument. Un-enlightened windows users believe that mac's are "ucky" because of something someone told them or they read on the internet. Whereas *most* mac users choose mac even (or because of) their experiences with windows..

But not the biggest, nor will it ever be...and so your statements aren't really contrary to anyone's belief.

I've had the privilege to use all three...Windows 98 to XP..Mac from way back when to OS X, and MIT's Linux Athena...

I have to say Windows is by far the best, most user-friendly, most useable and practical, and just...the best. There's a reason why it ships with nearly every PC...

Linux is also cool. I love the Linux terminal, and after I use it I can turn to my friends and say 'Muahahahah! I used...LINUX! Behold!!' It's also very complex (observe: install instructions for windows - click executable. follow instructions. install instructions for *nix - 18 pages long)...not practical, but I like it. It's very powerful and well-designed...

Mac...I personally have no love for Mac. I don't really like it, never have, and probably never will. Apple has made one good product, and that's the iPod...I don't listen to music often so it's useless for me...but it's a good product, no good denying it...and a lot of the Mac community has lost my respect for their constant, incessant whining about the Microsoft monopoly.

If the Mac were more powerful and more practical in all the spectrums, and if all the major PC-makers could sell it, they could have had a bigger market share. But they made mistakes, and the only place you can buy a Mac is Apple. Mac was incompatible with Big Blue's machine...and Apple couldn't catch up with the flow, so it lost. Their fault.

If the Mac were more powerful,

I dont know what mac you used but other than the low end imac's, most of the machines ARE powerful. And don't forget the G5.. know anything about it? If not, maybe you should read so you can actually back up your statements..

and more practical in all the spectrums

So you like to play games? Read above post, maybe try patience?

Why does that matter at all? This way it's not only more exclusive, you can actually have a decent warranty, and you run into half the problems you do with windows when it comes to compatibility, etc.

I don't know anyone who would say that Macintosh's gaming sector isn't growing. That would take more than just a complete idiot. By the way, please stop your quest to turn the word "tool" into a cliche. Heh...you probably know nothing of my experience with computers, yet I'm a tool for having a contrary opinion...

Jesus, people, they're freaking boxes and operating systems. Someone likes one more than the other. Big deal. No reason to get angry about it and start sniping.

Is there any thread in this forum that doesn't decend into name calling?

I tryed Linux but I wasn't very good. My highest score was only 75,900.

Sisuya, the mac just didn't suit me. I haven't had much contact with it, but I didn't really like it compared to Windows...personal preference. And about the last bit, distribution. If you've got fifteen companies selling Windows or Windows-compatible systems and one selling Mac's, who is going to get the larger market share?

Mac's absence of compatability problems is nice, but it's only because they don't have as much distribution.

Nobody's own personal preference is going to change through this anyways..

I know, agreed. I like Windows and *nix, not Mac...big deal. However...about the name calling bit, there are a few. But they're hard to find, and have less than five replies.

Not really.

Alright, is this better?

"And how do we know what everyone's beliefs are? Hitler."

Try using the proper words to get your point across. Instead of saying "and so your statements aren't really contrary to anyone's belief." Try saying "and so your statements aren't really contrary to everyone's belief."
[/Grammar Nazi]

That's all I was trying to point out before, then you gotta get all personal and think I'm making a personal attack. But thank you for pointing out my word choice. I should have used a larger vocabulary and avoided using the same insult in two consecutive posts.

Not matter what points you bring it, it doesn't change the fact that deciding on an OS is entirely personal preference, which is what the poll asks...

BINGO! Thank you, you have provided a valid argument. I also agree with the fact that they are just boxes, and although that's what I was arguing, it was not because of the operating system. It is a pet peeve of mine when someone try's to argue or start an argument, or even just states their opinion without any sense or explanation at all. It's usually enough to set me off..

By the way, it's beyond hope to post something about windows/mac and personal preference without an argument starting. I wouldn't be suprised if another one starts up. But that is life.
