An argument for and against god
My argument is this (well I say mine, its a classical argument of someone elses but I can't remember the author, some theological thinker)
1. God is omnipotent
2. God is benevolant
3. Sin exists in the world
ergo, God is either incapable of, or is unwilling to put down Satan and destroy sin. If he is incapable he is not omnipotent, if he is unwilling is he is not a benevolant god?
the only arguments I can feasibly see being put against this are
1. some varient on the free will theme
2. That sin has merit
I'm interested in replies to this, from all religious and non religious denominations

A more direct one: If god is omnipotent, can he then creat a rock that big he can't move it? Either you answer yes or no, he will not be imnopotent.

A childish word game. Oggidad is trying too steer the discourse to at least a moderately sophisticated debate, and here you come with your tired old rock so big God couldn't lift it "question". Dude...
OK since you ask: God has the choice to either make such a rock, or remain capable of lifting any rock that exists. Since "He" is a spirit, only His word makes Him incapable of lifting a rock, or of doing anything. He once swore by His Name never to destroy the world in fire, and therefor, He can never destroy the world in fire. If He makes a rock too big for Him to lift, He does so by His word.
God is not omnipotent, and the Bible doesn't say He is either. "He" may have more power in His little "finger" than all other sentient free-willed entities in existence, but there is a little spot in each and every one of us that He cannot make do anything. That is us, the finite little drops of will and awareness that are made in "His image", quanta of soul-stuff from the infinite Source of all will and all awareness.
That is why He cannot lift a rock that He has made to be too big for Him to lift, and that is why He cannot make us be righteous, as opp. to sinful.

i dont know what makes you think that god is limited by your logic.
you cant put boundaries on god.
he is beyond our comprehension. he is WAY beyond your little 4 lines of logic
he probably CAN make a rock so big that even he cant lift it.
meaning that god is beyond our petty paradoxes.

how do you know that. if the nature of god is truely beyond our comprehension, we can not know that about him. he might be beyond petty paradoxes but you aren't.

Meaning: god is meaningless, self-contradictory, and ad-hoc.
