What's the deal with the media?

it seems to me the media has come up with a new genre of crime. Two years ago it was the abduction of adolescent girls (Elizabeth Smart, Samantha Runnion). now it's the abduction and murder of pregnant women. I may be harsh when I say this , but I really don't care. People die every second of the day, so why should one woman be singled out and blasted out of proportion by the media? It's a really dumb way to get ratings. If I wanted crap for news i'd read "The Sun." That's my view and I'm stickin' to it. :sniper: :sniper:

I agree. I've heard somewhere that while crime has gone down in this country by almost 200%, media coverage of crime has increased over 600%.
Because people watch it. It may not appeal to everyone, and that's fine. However they wouldn't keep airing these stories if people didn't want to see them. Someone out there is watching it, and for as long as they do, there is no reason to change strategy.

Every summer, the American media seems to highlight one particular type of story and run with it.
In recent years:
* Abductions
* Shark attacks
* Murders
* Terrorist threats
The American media runs of shock and sensationalism, it's the only way to get the Nielsen ratings to stay on the air.
Just ask Fox News about that...

I think that was in a Micheal Moore film, "Bowling for Columbine."
I agree. CNN and Fox were both covering that missing women for way too long last night. Ok, she's missing, we get the point, now let's move on to something that affects more than a couple people.
