but PS2 is in a distant second...none of the other consoles even finish the race...in fact, PSX beats out the other, non-Sony, systems that are out now...

The best game on XBox is Halo.
Halo has been available on PC for a very long time in the form of Tribes.
Heck...if I'm not mistaken, the original Tribes came out about the same time as PSX and N64...and it's the same game as Halo...
Plus, FPS is a PC-genre.

What do you want to know? Tribes was the very first massive multiplayer first person shooter that let you move on more than one dimension (as in jumping and flying around and such). Halo, Unreal Tournament and I do believe one other game are essentially the exact same thing in a different package. The only reason Tribes 2 (which sucked for a reason I'll get to later) was released was because Tribes 1 didn't require the CD or a CD key to play so they didn't sell a lot of copies compared to how many people were playing. Tribes 2 required an original CD key (which means if you forgot about your account, you couldn't make a new one) and it was updated frequently, however, unfortunately, you had to download every update individually, which means if you bought the game today, you'd have to download about 24hours worth of small updates. It's pretty annoying. Anyway, Tribes 2 was the first game to do the whole CD key thing I think...

What we have here is all a matter of opinion... Now stop these stupid console wars... no system is better than the other... PS2, while not as powerful as the Xbox, has alot more good games for it, The Xbox has alot of potental... I hope to see that in the near future... They are both excellent systems... Now stop this childish fighting over which is best...

PS2 is also quite a bit older than any of the other consoles out right now so the fact that they can be compared just proves that Sony did a better job with their system. Although, I don't base my judgment of a system on the system itself. I base it off the games available, and PS2 just has more original and unique games in my opinion. And PSX was the same.

EDIT: However, PC does have a lot of original and unique games (consoles have more) but it does have the absolute widest choice of games as the best console games all end up on PC eventually...and I'd call Rockstar a sell out for going over and putting GTA on XBox. Oh well, San Andreas will surely be on PS2 for a while before XBox gets it...anyway, offer up some good XBox games to try getting me to change my mind.

The games make the system... That is true... Sony has alot of game devolpers making new, unique games... Killzone for example... Looks like eyecandy...
I wish my PC was powerful enough to run those game... It can barely run because my sister feels the need to download every game possible...

As for the Tribes games, Yes, I am a fan of the first tribes game, Tribes 2 ruined it for me though...

Anyway, the best FPS for PC is free. www.americasarmy.com

Are you INSANE!? Halo is incredibly overrated. The signle player is fun, but very, very short. The multiplayer is just... mediocre.

Steel batallion is EASILY the best game on the Xbox. Definitley worth 200$.

Edit: I cnreasingly wonder if I misunderstood your post though.

None of those games would be on my top 10 list. Well, maybe BF42. I haven't played that game, but I've heard lots of good things about it. I think it'd be redundant to have both BFs on the list. Anyway, I don't really like the type of FPSs that Doom and Half-Life are.

The strict storyline not please you? :D
If your not into that, Battlefeild is a great game, Especially in the dedicated servers where people take the game seriously... Or join a clan, either one of those are great fun... Very pretty games too...

I know all about getting online and playing. That's what FPS games should be built for...
I'm not talking about the strict storyline or the storyline of Doom and Half-Life at all...in fact, I wasn't even considering that. But you have to realize that games like Doom, Half-Life, Counterstrike and RavenSheild are all a set of FPSs from America's Army, Ghost Recon, and I don't know what BF is like...
America's Army and Ghost Recon is a whole lot more skill. The other games are just completely runnin' and gunnin' (which you can do somewhat in AA and GR, but there is a TON of strategy involved in those and I like that as opposed to Rambo-ing...)

Aww... So it's the "Runnin' into fire with guns a-blazen" that drives you away... Well BF is kinda like that in the noob servers... But if you get into the right one that has Headset functions and stuff, you can get some awsome games going...
I personally like both of those kinds of FPS, It all depends on my mood... So I can see where your coming from with wanting a more stratigic FPS to play... Noobs in the "shoot everything that moves" kind of games are really annoying... many of them either base camp or TK through out the game... I dislike them with a passion...

Which is why I like AA. If you move, you'll be heard by anyone near unless you're being really sneaking...also, if you shoot at teammate you get a ROE violation and if you get enough of these you are booted and temporarily banned from that server (like 30 seconds), also, there is the VoteKick function in which you can kick out people you don't like if the whole server agrees.

Of course, if you're on the Automatic Rifleman slot, you get the M249 Squad Automatic and you can just run down the hall and open the door and mow them down, but I don't mind that so much because it is a realistic tactic...and you can also shoot through the doors (realistically) so yea...I just like the realism of AA. I mean, if you go ramboing around, unless you're running down a hallway with the M249, chances are very high that you'll be the one dieing because you won't take anyone by surprise unless they just aren't paying attention or are making a lot of noise themselves..

BF also has that kind of stuff... But most of the time, no one knows how to use it... I'll be sure to get America's Army as soon as my computer gets free of virises and worms and stuff...

I downloaded Tribes recently off Filefront because I heard people say that it has a lot of teamwork but it doesn't. I don't know what these guys were smoking but every server is just Rambo-ing. On a team game a team doesn't win. The 2-3 best people on the team won.
In America's Army the best team wins. The best example of this is the Hospital level. One team is Escort. The other Ambush. They both start on oppisite sides of the map and in the hospital which is on the side is the VIP which Escort must get him from the hospital to the Helipad on the other side. But then you add another team with automatic weapons and RPG's it gets a little harder. If the team smokes the right places, camps in the right spots, and shoot nades in the correct area they will win easily. But if Ambush does it just right they will win. Normally the two are matched well enough that a good battle wages for a good 3 minutes. On that level it isn't two people that win the game it's normally the one person that loses it.

Tribes is 8 years old...hardly anyone plays it anymore except little kids who don't have an allowance that will cover any better games...it was much better before. In fact, it died out really quickly as soon as Tribes 2 hit, then that died out quickly because it sucked.
