Like, the experience, man!
Seriously. What is the advantage of having not tried them?
I recon burnt toast is worse for you than smoking dope, but I have no evidence to back this up. I am certain however that cannabis abuse is far less serious than alcohol abuse, and that the limited use of either is beneficial for similar reasons. They help the user to relax, and make social interaction more interesting.
Now I'm not saying I can't have fun without drugs. I'm not saying that I'm not interesting without them.
I'm also not saying that a ford won't get you from A to B. It will, but isn't it so much more fun to get there in a Ferrari? That's what I'm talking about.
Have never tried hard drugs, but know some folk who have. Some liked it, some didn't.
Most said it was okay, but not worth the money or the risk.
I have to ask though- what's the point in anything? Why get on a rollercoaster? Why have sex? Why go out for a nice meal? I do all these things because I enjoy them, and I am a free individual, and should be able to enjoy myself however I please, providing nobody else gets hurt.
That's why I grow my own grass, and then I know I'm not funding more serious crime.
My opinion; legalise!

Having used hallucinogins, (LSD, Psylocybin, DMT) I would say that they have deeply affected the way I think about the mind and about reality. My experiences with them probobly have something to do with my strong belief in the subjectivity of reality and experience. As for the question of aer tehy good for the average person? No. they are not, you have to be prepared for hallucinogens, they should NOT be taken lightly. Also, don;t believe anything you read about them, especially scientific material, because the fact is that science really has no idea what they do, the people that really know what hallucinogens do are experienced psychonauts. In short, take them with someone you know well who has taken them before and will not be surprised by their effects.
Err...yeah, you look like a moron to everyone around you when you take pot, but who cares, it feels good.
Yeah.

Well, you are smoking pot with the wrong people, namely, people who think its wrong to get stoned. (Evangelical Christians, Alcholics, etc.) You should find some pothead friends.

i think the problem is as mentioned, that people aren't educated about drugs. I think educating one's self is very important especially if trying any new drug. and i agree that the best people to go to in most cases are those who have tried the drug and can tell you what to expect mentally. I think its important to know physical risks too, like dont take speed if you have major heart problems. but i feel a lot of stuff on the internet is overexageration (of course E can kill brain cells when you feed monkeys 3 pills a day for a month!)i've had some really amazing experiences and above all the best advice i can offer is whenever trying a new drug, be in a comfortable situation where you feel safe. I think many bad drug experiences arise from people being in odd situations, or with people they didnt feel comfortable with.

Yes, education is the most important thing.
"Drugs" are very interesting matter. When you study them, you learn from many fields of science.
Back on topic, Positive aspects of having tried drugs:
Learning about yourself mostly. Discovery.
Learning that drugs aren't the end of your life.
Learning about all that misinformation they (parents, school, govt. whatever) give you, all those misunderstandings, sometimes outright lies, are not true or shown very black-and-white. (Don't smoke marijuana. Here have some adderall.)
About entheogens, visionary chemicals:
Respect these and you will have more chance that they will respect you. You must learn about them. It is not coincidence that they were once the privilege of shamans, healers or priests.
