The US government is messed up. First, we have the electoral college. It's just something our founding fathers came up with to keep control out of reach of the average citizen, who back then was pretty dumb. In these days there is no need for it as Americans are generally pretty intelligent. And it allows idiots to be put into office when more people voted for the other guy. I also think that Supreme Court Justices should be elected and not appointed.

Actually the Electoral College does still serve a purpose, it gives states with lesser populations (I'll use Wisconsin) a more equal footing with states with large populations (say, California). If it came down to an election, California has the upper hand by several millions votes, which Wisconsin can simply not match, but in the electoral college only about a hundred do, so combining with several other smaller states Wisconsin and cohorts, even with less population, have an equal say to monstrous California.
And the idea that Justices are appointed is a central tenet to the checks and balance system, unless you think we should do away with that as well.
