Run Like You Stole Something

Lance Armstrong has just provided me with my new motto. Interviewed after winning stage 17, his third stage win in a row, he had this to say about Floyd Landi, his teamate who set a blistering tempo up the last climb of the day, a catagory one, that destroyed the peloton and pulled back everyone that tried to get off the front.

"He is riding super; he's a great teammate and he's given everything. Today was the best day I've ever seen from Floyd and I've had some fast guys ride tempo on the climbs. Floyd seems to be getting better and better every day. And today is his best day ever. That's why I really wanted him to win the stage. For me, he deserved the win and for that matter, I should dedicate the stage win to him, because he deserved it. I think he wanted it and needed it. I asked him (on the final climb) 'how bad do you wanna win a stage in the Tour de France? And he said 'real bad'. I said 'how fast can you go downhill' and he said 'I go downhill real fast' and he said 'can I do it?' and I said 'sure you can do it; run like you stole something, Floyd.' And Jan chased him down."

I nearly fell out of my chair when I read the quote. It's got to be an instant classic. I'm thinking of having t-shirts made up with that slogan emblazed across them. Maybe it'd be fun to wear one to the next track meet I attend.

Better do it quick--wouldn't surprise me if there are t-shirts made and sold on the streets of Paris saying exactly that between now and Sunday.

That is a pretty good quote. Sounds familiar though, sure it doesn't exist already?

I'm sure Lance isn't the first to ever speak those words, I just find his using them and how he used them classic.

That is a good quote, I was watching when OLN was interviewing him after the stage, and thought it was pretty amusing when he said that. Lance Armstrong would be a cool biking teammate.
