There are two choices to stopping gun crimes

1) ban anyone from having any guns at all and stricly enforce it, or make getting a gun really hard to do and make sure its registered, tagged, and able to identify how it fires a bullet

2) require everyone to have at least a concealed 9mm and sway any crime involving a gun being used in "self defense"

of course there is going to be a murder orgy at first, but that will die off

People will just get guns from parts of the world without that technology, and won't register them. I'm not going to say it would be easy, but where there's a will... or they could just modify existing guns, etc.

A gun is useless if you're not willing to use it. Requiring people to carry a gun who would never shoot another human being is just giving whoever kills them a free gun, and those that are willing to use guns will kill those who aren't as they please.

The only real way is to shoot everyone. Not fatally, but that should show them whats in store, and the overwhelming power of the State. Giving people guns makes them more willing, on a sub-consious level, to use them. Like having cakes, you're more willing to eat it if you don't have to move to get it. People will get guns in their own fashion if you ban them, but they can just be killed off in "gang violence".

Actually, both are not quite accurate. A county in, IIRC, Montana, or possibly Wyoming, actually passed a local ordinance requiring citizens to carry a sidearm, but openly, not concealed. The crime rate fell. It seems criminals are an intelligent group in some respects, and that they are concerned about the possibility of gunshot wounds being an occupational hazard increasing. The down side is that for this to be truly effective, there need to be pockets of civilization where the populace is unarmed, so that the criminals can relocate there to ply their trade... which runs into the joint problems of 1) having too many criminals and not enough victims to support said criminals, and 2)finding people stupid enough, or bleeding-heart liberal enough (ok so that was redundant) to willingly live in such places.
As a side note... prison populations are full of people in favor of gun control, it makes their future careers safer.

i think that was the point. like some country who issue their police with tazers (think it was germany) shoot each officer with a tazer first, so they know what their victims will be getting and will, hopefully, only ever use them as a last resort

Feh. I'm pretty pro-gun (I shot my first deer when I was twelve) but forcing everyone to carry a gun seems ludicrous. I mean, are you really going to allow an ex-con access to a weapon?

Really, concealed carry seems like the best option.

Yah, thats the idea. Most people have at the very least a shread of empathy about them. If they can understand what shoting people will do, they may think twice about doing so. If they witness, first hand the effects, then perhaps they won't want to associate with guns until all other possibilities have been taken.

That’s about the age I started shooting guns. Although I haven’t really fired a weapon since I was eight. It’s hard to find a good shooting range while moving around a lot.
