Try something a bit different

Okay I don't know if this is anything new but try this:

Pick something about the party opposite of yours that you agree with or is compellign or convincing. Try not to flame anyone or put anyone down. Maybe even pick something that a president or presidential candidate youw ere against did that you were supportive of.

Just pick something from the Conservative or Liberal viewpoints that you might be close to agreeing with.

(maybe another thread should be started about what viewpoints or ideas on our own side that we dont like)

I'll start:

I think Conservatives are correct that people should be able to own a gun if they want to.

I think conservatives are right that there are some lazy people who are mooching off the govt.(although if you are reasonable you know that there are people who genuinly need help and have noone else to turn too)

What I agree with that Bush has done? The do not call list.

I like the conservative opposition to rabid political correctness. I can't really think of anything else.

I've never really given much thought to the opposite of the Libertarian Party...not really sure what it is.

If that is their position then that is another thing I agree on.

VX man, maybe list things from other parties then that you might agree with.

Alright.

Democratic Party
Their opposition to the involvement of religious morals in lawmaking.
Their care for the environment.
Their support for public education (could be improved, but it's a start).
Their attempts at improving the poverty situation (which have been corrupted, I think, in many ways).

Republican Party
Their opposition to, as Siljhouettes put it, rabid political correctness.
Their support of capitalist ideals.
Their support for civilian gun ownership (I want an assault rifle myself, but it looks like that won't be happening).
Their support for the death penalty.

Green Party
Their care for the environment.

Socialist Party
Their compassion.

Communist Party
Their idealism (I don't agree with it, but I admire that they maintain such high hopes).

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any others, though I'm sure there are many more.

From the liberal point of view I agree with abortion and on the rest I am conservative.

I tried, I really did. I guess I'm just a very, very left wing person. Maybe after reading some more posts by other people I can find something I agree with. I'm sure there's something.

What about tax cuts.

While Tax Cuts sounds good it depends on who and what you are cutting taxes on. When The majority of those cuts seemingly beneift the rich while doing little to nothing for the poor, it's a hard one to support. Especialy when I believe that 40% of our taxes are goign to the military (who overpays for everything) while I deem education as the most important thing and there are poor public school that seem to be making kids dumber.

That's exactly what I would have said. What we need are tax-shifts, not tax-cuts.

I'm not really party affiliated. Generally, my political views tend to oppose just about everyone. Maybe because deep down, I'm a nihilist who wants to see the human race wiped off the planet in bloody carnage. Preferably on TV.

But let's see. Generalizations it is!

Democrats -

They don't mind it if someone else gets more head than they do.

Republicans -

They don't think money is evil.

Libertarians -

They have a lot of skepticism.

Socialists -

They're amusing.

Greens -

At least they're not in power.

Anarchists -

Amusement value.

Communists -

Had some good music, back in the day.

Heh okay I'm done.

Well I had asked that you dont put anyone down so as to keep it civilized and avoid flame wars.

In terms of green party - you really can't think of anything they are for that you agree with? I would think that being pro-environment woud be a good thing to anybody.

oh wait you want everyone to die violently... nevermind

A lot of right-wing people are anti-environment, because protecting the environment costs money, and they don't care about the future of the planet.

Of course I'm pro-environment. I wanted all humans to die, didn't I?

And that's the only solution, environmentally speaking. Civilization, by it's very nature, is a cancer-like growth that can never be reconciled with what people call nature.

And the Greens seem to be yet another one issue party anyway. More than that it's hard for me to say, since in America of course, there are only two political parties.

I see your point. I also think the human race is like a virus to the earth too.

It seems impossible for someone to be in a position of leadership and not take advantage of that power without being to the detriment of at least some of those they are leading. Doesnt matter which country or which political system we are talking about.

We are still a world of barbarians in my opinion.

I'm registered Libertarian so really the only thing I disagree with is complete laissez-faire capitalism, there need to be limits or people will cause trouble.

So are you saying that you agree with everything in your opposing parties except that one thing?

The questions was "what do you agree with in opposing parties?"
