Well, soon it will come. That one guy with the website and the time machine told us that there would be a huge civil war just weeks before the nov. election... time is ticking....AHHH

Oh, I doubt it will come before the November elections unless there's a bullshit attempt to cancel them. Now if there's a lot of hanky-panky this time around, then all bets are off. We're likely to see riots in the streets.

Great...So now our elections have turned into hocky games. If Bush wins the democraps go out and turn over some cars and burn some stuff, and if Kerry wins, the republicans pay the democraps to do it anyways...Y'all best sit outside with a shot gun and let nobody come near you house or car!

Back to reality...

I doubt there will be a Civil War over Bush being re-elected in November. Also doubt there'll be any riots. Protests on the other hand.... *shrugs*

let me repeat myself here--I only think there may be problems if there seems to be some sort of election fraud.

Nahh the Repugnants won't pay. They might turn over their cars.....Then again they might because they can give tax breaks for losses.....

If there is a Civil War in America.... the rednecks will win because they got all the guns.

There'll be no civil war in the US following the November election because martial law will be declared.

I have a sickly suspicion that a civil war would severely disrupt internet service. :(

It didn't seem to bother anyone very much last time.

American political unrest could be entertaining. What would the non-voting majority do? Sit on their duffs and watch the highlights on TV, I suspect. Could it be that Gil Scott-Heron was wrong?

I don't think that there is going to be an American civil war anytime soon. If Bush wins the election (and I really don't think he will) there will probably be protests, especially if foul play is suspected..

England has had two civil wars in the past 1,000 years:

War of the Roses - 1485
English Civil War - 1641-1649

I have seen some British history books (though they are admitedly very old) that call the American Revolution a British Civil War.

This is an amusing topic though. I think the starter of this thread has a lot more faith in our lazy, apathetic, selfish, and politically ignorant bretheren.

England has had two civil wars in the past 1,000 years:

War of the Roses - 1485
English Civil War - 1641-1649

And the war between Steven and Matilda in the early 12th century. And the various rebellions of Henry II's sons (although these were mostly fought out in France). And the baronial revolt against King John. And the baronial revolt against Henry III. And the baronial revolt against, and eventual regicide of, Edward II. And the Peasants' Revolt in 1381. And the baronial revolt against, and eventual regicide of, Richard II. And the revolt(s) against Henry IV -- the biggest was under Glyn Dwr in Wales, but it spilled over and at one point threatened to split England into 3 kingdoms. And the Catholic revolts and Pilgrimage of Faith against Elizabeth I.

And if you're going to count the 1641-1649 affair as "English" then you really have to include the 1745-46 Jacobite uprising too. It started in Scotland (but then so did the "English" Civil War) and got as far south as Derby. And we shouldn't forget the various turmoils in Ireland which have spilled over onto English turf either; the latest one being barely over now.

A civil war in the US would make for great television, seems highly unlikely though.

That said an American told me the UK needs a civil war/revolution yesterday, I'm inclined to agree.

the war of the roses wasn't a civil war

Yes it was. Or rather, it was a series of civil wars. One bunch of Englishmen fighting another bunch of Englishmen for control of the English crown; in what way was it not a civil war? Or do you mean that they just weren't terribly polite?

Then I'm afraid you have been misinformed. The House of Lancaster and the House of York fought each other for the English crown. Henry VI (Lancaster) was driven out, and replaced by Edward IV (York). Edward IV was then driven out and Henry VI was restored -- only to see Edward IV re-invade and retake the throne. Edward IV was succeeded by his son, Edward V, who was murdered by (or on the orders of) their uncle Richard III, despite the protests to the contrary by members of the Richard III Society who should really examine Richard's personal psalter more closely, but that's another story. Anyway, Richard III, a Yorkist, was finally defeated by Henry VII, the grandson of Henry VI's mother, Katherine of Valois, and Owen Tudor, a Welshman on the up-and-up, from where we get the Tudors. English people fighting English people for control of England = an English civil war -- although it's true that the ultimate winner was a Welshman.

US Civil War in my time .... now that would be something ...

I'm pretty sure the disorganized bubbas with shotguns would be completely annihilated by just one squadron of US Army Rangers in about 20 minutes, but it would be good television.

End result:

1] Less Bubbas.
2] Firearms banned in the private sector.

Win-Win!
