Do you think Canada's government is good? why or why not?
DebbieDallas

Canada's government is just as good as the American's government...

...so in short: NO !!!

The lying Liberals have had power waaaaaaaaaaay too long, and don't keep their 'promises'.

Remeber the GST?.... of course you do, because Jean Chrétien never got rid of the tax - that he "hated" - like he said he would !

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

In Days of yore,
From Britain's shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane
Our brave fathers side by side
For freedom's home and loved ones dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died.
And so their rights which they maintained,
We swear to yield them never.
Our watchword ever more shall be
The Maple Leaf Forever

The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

Our fair Dominion now extends
From Cape Race to Nootka Sound
May peace forever be our lot
And plenty a store abound
And may those ties of love be ours
Which discord cannot sever
And flourish green for freedom's home
The Maple Leaf Forever

The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.

It's bud the spud from the bright red mud
Goin down the Hiway smiling-
The Spuds are big on the back of Bud's rig
And they're from Prince Edward Island they're from PEI
Now from Charlottetown or from Summerside
They load him down for the big long ride
He jumps in the cab and he's off with the pride Sobagos
He's gotta catch the boat to make Tormentine & he heads up that old New B. line
Through Montreal he comes just a flyin with another big load a badadoes.
Now the OPP don't think mucha Bud...
Yeah the cops a been lookin for the son of a gun
That's been rippin the tar off the 401-
They know the name on the truck shines up in the sun-"Green Gables."
But he hits Toronto and it's 7 O'Clock when he backs er up agin the terminal dock.
And the boys gather round just to hear him talk
About another big load a badadoes!
Chorus:
Now I know a lot of people from east to west
that like the spuds from the island best.
Cause they'll stand up to the hardest test-right on the table.
So when ya see that big truck rollin by-wave yer hand or kinda wink yer eye,
Cause that's Bud the Spud from old PEI, with another big load a badadoes!
Chorus:
slow-because he's got another big load,
of the best dog gone badadoes that's ever been growed
And they're from PEI They're from PEI...

That's a good one, but I like this better:

The Last Saskatchewan Pirate - Captain Tractor

I used to be a farmer, and I made a living fine,
I had a little stretch of land along the CP line
But time went by and though I tried, the money wasn't there
And bankers came and took my land and told me "fair is fair"
I looked for every kind of job, the answer always no
"Hire you now?"; they'd always laugh, "we just let twenty go!"
The government, the promised me a measly little sum
But I've got too much pride to end up just another bum.
Then I thought, who gives a damn if all the jobs are gone?
I'm gonna be a PIRATE on the river Saskatchewan!!!
(Arrr! Arrr! Arrr! Arrr! Arrr!!)

Cause it's a heave-ho, hi-ho, comin' down the plains
Stealin' wheat and barley and all the other grains
It's a ho-hey, hi-hey farmers bar yer doors
When ya see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores

Well, you'd think the local farmers would know that I'm at large
But just the other day I found an unprotected barge
I snuck up right behind them and they were none the wiser,
I rammed their ship and sank it and I stole their fertilizer!
A bridge outside of Moosejaw spans a mighty river
Farmers cross in so much fear their stomachs are a-quiver
Cause they know that TRACTOR JACK is hiding in the bay
I'll jump the bridge and knock them cold and sail off with their hay!

Cause it's a heave-ho, hi-ho, comin' down the plains
Stealin' wheat and barley and all the other grains
It's a ho-hey, hi-hey farmers bar yer doors
When ya see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores

Well, Mountie Bob he chased me, he was always at my throat
He'd follow on the shoreline cause he didn't own a boat
But cutbacks were a-coming and the Mountie lost his job
And now he's sailing with us, and we call him Salty Bob!
A swingin' sword, a skull and bones and pleasant company
I never pay my income tax and screw the GST (SCREW IT!!)
Prince Albert down to Saskatoon I'm the terror of the seas
If you wanna reach the co-op, boy, you gotta get by me!

Cause it's a heave-ho, hi-ho, comin' down the plains
Stealin' wheat and barley and all the other grains
It's a ho-hey, hi-hey farmers bar yer doors
When ya see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores
Arrrr, Metis! Get it? Matey? (Hey, that's Riel-ly funny! You know, Louis Riel?)

Well, Pirate life's appealing but you just don't find it here,
I've heard that in Alberta there's a band of buccaneers
They roam the Athabaska and sail to Fort McKay
And you're gonna loose your stetson if you have to pass their way!
Well, winter is a-comin' and a chill is in the breeze
My Pirate days are over once the river starts to freeze
I'll be back in springtime but now I have to go
I hear there's lots of plundering down in New Mexico!

Cause it's a heave-ho, hi-ho, comin' down the plains
Stealin' wheat and barley and all the other grains
It's a ho-hey, hi-hey farmers bar yer doors
When ya see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores

Cause it's a heave-ho, hi-ho, comin' down the plains
Stealin' wheat and barley and all the other grains
It's a ho-hey, hi-hey farmers bar yer doors
When ya see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores
When ya see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores...

Ise the Bye
Words & music traditional

Ise the bye who builds the boat
And Ise the bye who sails her.
Ise the bye who catches the fish
And takes them home to Lizer

Hip your partner Sally Tibbo,
Hip your partner Sally Brown
Fogo,Twillingate, Morton's Harbour
All around the circle
Sods and rinds to cover yer flake,
Cake and tea for supper.
Codfish in the spring o' the year,
Fried in maggoty butter.
Hip your partner...
I don't want your maggoty fish,
They're no good for winter.
I can buy as good as that
Down in Bona Vista.
Hip your partner...
Some extra verses sent on 30.09.02 by Justus Elgar:
I took Lizer to a dance
As fast as she could travel
And every stop that she did take
Was up to her knees in gravel

Hip your partner...
Susan White she's out o' sight,
Her petticoat wants a border
Old Sam Oliver in the dark,
He kissed her in the corner.
Hip your partner...
I'se the bye that builds the boat
And I'se the bye that sails her
I'se the bye that catches the fish
And takes 'em home to Lizer.
Hip your partner...

I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay,
I sleep all night and I work all day.
Chorus: He's a lumberjack and he's okay,
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch,
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping

And hav

Mounties: He cuts down trees, he eats his lunch,
He goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he goes shopping
And has buttered scones for tea.
Chorus: He's a lumberjack and he's okay,
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
I cut down trees, I skip and jump,
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing,
And hang around in bars.
Mounties: He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps,
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing,
And hangs around in
bars.
Chorus: He's a lumberjack and he's okay,
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
I cut down trees, I wear high heels,
Suspendies and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my dear pappa.
Mounties: He cuts down trees, he wears high heels?
Suspendies...and a bra?
...he's a lumberjack and he's okay,
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
...he's a lumberjack and he's OKAAAAAAAAAAYYY.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

What is your source for these stats? I find it hard to believe a credible pollster would ask the question "Do you think America is evil?"

What is your source for these stats? I find it hard to believe a credible pollster would ask the question "Do you think America is evil?"I don't know what source they used but the original survey was done by a group called The Dominion Institute. Look at some of the .pdf files to see what sort of poll is involved :http://www.dominion.ca/English/polls.html

You can make up your own mind about the credability of the pollster and the validity of the number.

I think the operative word to remember is *teens*. Most of us grow up and get a more mature and open-minded opinion. I think you'd only encounter a tiny fraction of Canadians over 30 who are generally anti-American.

Adult Canadians may remain anti-Republican but we are not usually anti-American.

First of all, that's 46%. Sure it's a high number, but suddenly you are assuming that all Candians believe that. How do I know this? Because you said "I have friends in Canada, but not for long!". That statement is as ignorant as they get, and one of the reasons why so many Canadians hate America. I hate America, but not ALL Americans. A large chunk of my family even lives in California. I have several friends in Indiana, Georgia and Kentucky. When Canadians say they hate America, Americans should not take it so personally.

What most Canadians mean when they hate America is that they hate the way the country is run, not the actual country. Of course we'd still go there on a vacation, it is a beautiful country! And as far as moving there to get a better job is concerned, you should be happy that's happening, at least you guys have doctors to look after you. All of ours have left. Every country has it's problems, Canada definately included. The problem is that America's problems so directly go against everything Canada believes in, like peace, for instance.

Now, back to the original topic of this thread:

As I just finished saying, of course Canada's government has flaws. I isn't fair to say that the Liberals have broken so many problems so of course the conservatives would be better. The problem with that statement is this: Canadians set such a high standard for who the elect, that all parties lie in order to get elected. Do you really think the Conservatives would have kept all of those promises? The only reason the Liberals are labelled as the liers is because they have been in power for soooo long that they haven't been able to keep many promises. Now about the GST thing. Cretien should never have said he was going to get rid of it, but I'm glad he didn't. How do you expect to get rid of the deficit if we had gotten rid of the GST? The fact os, as much as you might hate it, taxes are good.

I am a proud NDP, as you might have guessed, so all of this defending the Liberals really isn't all the biased. The reason I like the NDP is that they understand that you can't get everything without paying for it. The Conservatives and Liberals say they want to keep taxes how they are or lower them, without cutting social programs. The Green Party infact is the WORST for this. The NDP's understanding of this impossability is why I like them, and also, why they will probably never win.

The reason the Canadian government is so full of lies and corruption is that Canadians expect too much from them. You can't expect never to pay taxes but still get free healthcare. It's not possible. The Liberals and Conservatives (CPC espescially) say that it is. Because it sounds so good, Canadians vote for it, and therefore the government who lied the most is usually the one who gets elected. If you kept winning because of lying, wouldn't you keep lying too?

The Liberals lie, yes, but they really aren't a bad government when you look at what they have actually done. No government is perfect.

(sorry that was really long and a lot of rambling)

How has the Government failed and how would a Conservative government be better?

1) The Liberal Government may have secured the finacial decifit. However, it is a clear self-explanation that they are not finacial credibility after thousands of dollars disappeared in HDRC and the entire dance with the Quebec Sponsorship Scandal.

2) The starvation of the West Coast and the Maritimes. All Federal Money is concentrated on Ontario and Quebec.

3) The Same-Sex Marriage and Gay Rights have been added to the hate laws, placing the large religious groups into bad poistions. The Liberal Government is not intereted in protecting and keeping the Judeo-Christian values our nation was founded on.

4) Our military for thirty years has been starving for a more money. A report done by Queens University says that if the Canadian Government doesn't do anything with our military. WE WONT HAVE ONE. Our SOVEREIGN right as a nation, ALLOWS us to have a MILITARY to protect ourselves internally - national disasters and externally from foreign invasions and terrorism (we are on Bin Laden's wish list). Will the US protect us? Well what if the big one hits the West Coast? They'll be dealing with their own problems and we'll have nothing to help us. Reason why I made point 2.
