Has Jolt lost the NS appeal?

I don't know. But it just seems to me like Jolt has ruined NS. The bland forums, and the whole Jolt image has totally ruined the appeal of the NS forums to me. I know it's faster and all, but other than that, the differences of Jolt seemed to have ruined NS. I still like NS, but I won't be posting in the forums nearly as much as I used to. Does anyone agree?

hard to say. at first i hated it since it sucked to post here since i could never get it to load, but today its seems good(knocks on wood :) ).

it does have more 'options', but it is indeed kind of bland looking. And it pisses me off that my original cound wasnt kept up, but thats my fault as i lost my nation to tempory death :)

change sometimes sucks, ill give it a chance before i give a final verdict...

I agree with you totally. I loved the old NS spirit better, when we were on our own and could complain about moderation and complain about forum titles and stuff. Now, we are in the shadow of Jolt and all the jolt mods and the Jolt Forum Royalty. All our top posters who we thought were so cool with so many posts are dwarfed by the massive jolt spammers. And I liked the old design and colors better, for both the forums and the games.

Exactly my point. :D

this server is a trillion times better then the old NS one--you can actually POST now without having to wait for HOURS and constantly having to reload--I dont miss the old server at all--this change was a vast improvement in my opinon

Can the other Jolt members post here? But, really I like the fact that they now can run on my computer with out having to reload all the time.

I would be quite happy if we lost the acres of white and grey and went back to the the light blues of the old Forum - all I really want is a different template for the pages that we can use at our own discretion. That and being taken to see someone's country when I click on their nation name, instead of the user profile.

I miss the old colors. A lot. And, I know it sounds odd, but I miss sitting there refreshing. It kept me amused while I read the threads (maybe one of the reasons I stayed at NS- getting in fights with the server seemed infinitely more interesting than reading the same Bush vs. Kerry threads over and over again.). As I'm sure you have noticed (and when I say that, I mean nobody noticed and I'm trying to inflate my ego), I've posted less on Jolt. Why? Because it's too easy.

Another thing I miss: seeing who all was online and looking at that index page of each forum. It somewhat dulls my invective these days when I don't know if I'm just hurling it out into the void, or if its target is still there online ready to receive it.

although it did find it disconcerting when i looked up and saw that *I* wasnt on the list!

The old NS spirit? You mean bitching at eachother, endlessly regurgitating the same political 'debate' topics and complaining about the server?

And why is post count so bloody important anyway? We're not in competition with the old Jolt members.

My only complaints are:

I only have guest privileges. I am hoping that someone will fix this soon, or else I am going to throw a massive wobbly.
There is no 'blushing' smiley
I can't get the image tags to work.
I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to navigate the forums

Definitely more and better smilies. But at least IMG code is working, so I can use mine again. http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/aetsch/cheeky-smiley-006.gif

That's the biggie for me too--that, and being able to see who's ostensibly online at the same time for fun.

i was thinking about the person with 100,000 posts. jolt only lets you post every 30 seconds so that's 120 an hour, but realistically you can only post 50 or 60 times an hour on average without just focusing on timing and meanless spam. that means to get 100,000 posts you're looking at about 2000 hours on the jolt forums. that's an entire working year, and that's really sad to waste on spam strictly for post count.

The old layout certainly looked nicer. The flat-shades, 1-pixel-border look works when sites have reasonably vivid colour schemes, but the NS greys-and-whites just don't cut it in that format, and neither do any of the other Jolt forum skins.

The whole forums seem to be lacking something (aside from the constant server problems that dogged the old ones) - I wonder if it would be too hard to somehow port the old interface look into this one (I know they use different flavours of messageboard backend, but I mean the images rather than the interface - just clone it over? I've never used vBulletin so I don't know what it can and can't do.

But yes, the whole forum seems duller than it used to be - I think people had more time to dream up interesting debates while fending off the server problems or something :p - or maybe the dulllness of the grey and white look is contagious.

I don't know the fact i can post and my RP's work better is good, the fact that it looks rubbish is bad.

On the positive side, I'm glad the word censor is gone. I don't drop f-bombs around here very often, but I like that they make it through, at least for now.

don't know yet. Seem different if not just plain wrong. I'd rather have the old slow servers back.

i take your point Jap...for me the new forums look ugly.

it's all pros and cons though...at least i can post!

people don't like change and i suspect a lot of my objection to the new forums is just that...it's different. So i'm picking holes in it

i'm having trouble navigating...but i had trouble with the old forums when first using those!

it's also easier to pick out the things which one doesn't like...and to brush aside the more positive things...

so, how's about giving it a fair trial? How long did ya take to get used to the original forum? How's about allowing that and then some and then reconsidering? :)

personally, i feel that NS has lost so many familiar posters that i would be very sorry to loose you...or anyone else....

so c'mon guys, give the new forums a fair chance :)

Return the old layout. That's all I want. This grey is starting to get on my nerves... it's so bald...or maybe bland...

The blue was very good.

But, hey, don't get me wrong, the one thing that has improved is the speed, which just makes it even less appealing visually. The old forum, albeit slow and fickle, was much nicer to look at than this.

More smilies would be good as well, but I never use them anyways. I suppose they just made the "posting" page more pleasant to look at than the "grey & white & red & yellow" on the Jolt forums.

If something could be done to give us back more of the blue shades, I wouldn't mind at all.

Yes it has. I liked, and will try to build an un-structured forum.

Well, I don't know if anyone noticed or not, but I just did. The old NS forums would show you who is viewing the forums and these don't. So I don't know for sure or not if I am the only loser on at 4:10am CST posting on the forum...

My opinion: What needs to happen is that everything (including skin) needs to be the same as the old NS. EVERYTHING!! Also, the nationstate's forum needs to totally seperate from Jolt, so non-NS Jolt members can't post.

Question for mods: Would it be impossible to do this while still actually being able to post?

Forum lag gone = good
Forum style gone = bad

Sniper smilee = good
Forum titles = bad

I like the new forum, if only for the speed and the arcade. A new style sheet is needed, (I take it they use the ole CSS files for differant styles), and it should be fairly easy to just recolor some of the cells from gray to say....blue. Some of the white cells could be light gray. Forum titles might be harder to change.
