Sake?

Have any of you ever tried sake (the japanese alcoholic drink thing, fermented from rice)?
I have and I can tell you it's absolutely vile! What did you think of it? And what is your favourite drink that you always have to have when you go out.
Mine is blue aftershock. :D

I like hot sake, but not for the taste, really. Next time, try having them add a little peach schnapps to the sake. It improves it immensely.
Standard drink for me is a Bombay Sapphire martini, very dry, straight up, dirty, three olives, chilled glass.

Well, I finally grasped that adding orange juice to it, not drinking it straight, is a lot better...but I also found out that that gives you a bad stomach the next day and is not the best thing to do 7 hours before you start a 12hours plane journey! LOl.

LOL! Ouch. No, sake is not the thing to drink in that situation. Although, I guess you could mix it with Pepto Bismol and sort of cut out the middleman.

Yeah, I'd need some sake to make that movie seem good :p .

Nope, do not like the smell/taste/appearance of alcohol in the slightest.
Sake is one of the worst, though.

Pepto Bismol....what's that?
Antacid for upset stomachs, indigestion, nausea, heartburn and diarhea. It's this bright pink color and is supposed to taste like peppermint, but really tastes like peppermint coated in chalk and the stuff that collects under the refridgerator.

I've never heard of sake before, it sounds pretty nasty.
My favorite beers are Fosters (as long as its cold) and Bass.
Aside from that, i like Port, but i dont really drink spirits or wines.

Cheap sake served hot is awful - jet fuel. Good sake served cool is great. The key is good sake. Generally speaking, an average sake is served hot for the same reason most cheap US beers are best served ice cold - to mask the flavor.
A good sake should usually (not always) be served slightly cool or chilled, much like a white wine.
http://www.sake-world.com/ is a good starting point.
And if, for what ever masochistic reason, you want to try it, I present the worlds 2nd worst "cocktail":
The Black Samurai
1 oz cheap sake
1/2 oz soy sauce
mix and shoot
It's best to have your "friends" stand back if you try it. It's second only to a Prarie Fire for bad ideas in cocktails.

I prefer Diet Coke with Lime myself, followed by Diet Vanilla Coke and Diet Dr Pepper.
However: some alcholic drinks I do like.
Japanese Plum wine: very sweet, very potent, drink one of those small "thimble" cups and you'll feel fine.
Strawberry Dacquiri -- and if you don't want the rum, ask for a virgin. I want the rum. :)
Fuzzy Navel: Peach Schnapps and OJ.
Woo-Woo: Peach Schnapps, Vodka, and Cranberry Juice, I believe.
Long Island Iced Tea -- watch out, tastes like sweetened ice tea but will kick your @$$ if you're not careful.
Brandy Alexander:vanilla ice cream makes this taste dangerously like a milkshake -- don't be fooled, though... once watched someone fall flat on her face after having a few of these.
Great for a camping trip -- early morning chill warded off by this:
Hot Chocolate with a liberal dash of peppermint schnapps.

Nah, alka seltzer and vodka - it's nice and fizzy.

Doh, both Plum wine and Brandy Alexanders are just drinking accidents waiting to happen. They're so sweet and seem so harmless, but then, before you know it, it's the next morning, all your clothes are on inside out and the dog is looking at you funny.

Thanks, Daistallia, I had no idea why some sake was served hot and other sake cold. And thanks for the link. Some friends and I are having a "roll-yer-own" sushi party on Saturday and I'll see what this site suggests for sake.
As for that cocktail, I think I died a little inside just reading it. That sounds as appalling as a Cement Mixer.

Ahh... this brings back the tail of an incident...
One night, my friends and I took a friend's younger brother who had just turned 18 to a strip club. He's gay, so we figured it would be funny. After two or three beers (and two or three hundred jokes) we bought him a lap dance. Trying to be sexy, the stripper leaned over and whispered in his ear, "I like it in the butt." He replied, "Me too."
Alchohol related incidents. Jesus help us all.

OOC:
Bullet shots are my personal favorite. Simply fill a shotglass with vodka, bourbon, whatever, and toss a bullet in it, of any caliber. It gives it that metallic tang that really sets off the taste or either spirit.

I'm goint to guess it was from a Japanese who either thought you wouldn't know the difference between the good and bad stuff, or thought you wouldn't try it (common conceits here). Either that or a non-Japanese who didn't know what was good.

I recommend Hakutsuru©™, a fine imported supermarket level japanese sake.
I've had it once before, not the best, but it wasn't terrible, like you guys are saying.
I guess it's a bit like cheap vodka and good vodka- cheap vodka tastes like mouthwash, good vodka tastes like...burning. :)
As for my favourite drinks, I like Irish whiskey, beer, specifically bitters like VB (probably unheard of outside Australia) and I don't mind the odd stout (even though i'm only 18 when most people are drinking alcoholic soft drink ;)). Whiskey in general is pretty good....I'll drink anything though. Well almost anything. Don't like sweet stuff much.
