I'm going to have a short little rant today. I hate big visible labels on clothes, hats, shoes, etc. I think the people who wear them are fools. This is because they are being used as walking billboards to do the advertising of whatever company, and they're actually PAYING for the honor. It's as if Nike and Adidas have pulled the most amazing stunt of making people both marks and whores at the same time. The consumer goes in, pays to wear the logo, then gets out on the stroll to pull in other marks.
Am I the only one who sees this as totally wrong?

who cares?! it's not like you don't get anything out of it, you get to wear a nice designer top or jumper or trousers!

You should be paying for the nice jumper, not the logo.

It discusts me as well - A clear sign of the filth and decadence in the westarn world today!! WTF, have we become!! I will generally only purchase either second hand clothing or generic "no name" stuff. Besides usually such clothing (that is, designer crap) is that droopy, baggy garbage anyway! Furthermore, if I wanted to look like a clown, I would have "run away to the circus" when I was a child!

Nah, your right. Its sadd...everyone thinks there an individual, then they are out buying and wearing "whats in" thats why they pay for the label and want that label where everyone can see it. Its sadd. It goes to show people are self absorbed and primarly concerned with status symbols.
 Is paying WAY to much money for a logo
People are generally self absorbed and stupid.

If people want to pay for it...
YOU don't have to buy it, if you don't like it.

As long as the labels and images are Surfer or skating brands I'm cool with them. But maybe if it was something like Coke, then my opinion might change.
The Corporations are smart fellers, let them have their money.
See? This is why everyone in the world sucks but me
if you all just listened and did what i said, we wouldnt have these problems
jesus christ people...dont you get it?

Besides, the way I see it, the item in question is going to be a worn out rag in a year or two anyway. Usually they're not actually that well made. Maybe they should put air-conditioning in the sweatshops, to provide the marks with better quality clothing, so they last longer, and can be soaked of some more money.
I'm not too worried about people buying Nike or Addidas clothes for the label, but what does confuse me is when people shell out £600 for a Gucci (or other silly named posh fashion design) coat just because of the label. These coats etc. aren't any better than cheaper makes other than the fact that they have the label.
Meh, as long as its not my money they're spending they can buy whatever they want :) .
Am I the only one who sees this as totally wrong?
No. You're totally right.
i'd rather have a jumper with a designer logo than one without one
Why? What difference does it make...I mean, what are you getting out of paying much more for a label jumper, when you can get one of the same quality for far less? You're paying extra so that they can advertise their products and make more money- which isn't going to benefit you in the least.

I like buying things like shirts from small restaurants to show support, like Lenny & Joe's Fishtale, a small New England chain of 3 restaurants. Plus they have nice shirts and their only 5bucks.

A joke that my sister's friends frequently make is that Bench should pay her, because she has so many clothes made by them.

ERM guys , i think that was one of the points behind max's book. Its not a new rant , I personaly have lighters with my bars names on them and little messages on the back ( live single, drink double, sleep triple ) I have poeple comming in all the time want to the "new lighters with messages" i personaly only do it for advertising ( name of bar on front) .If i could convince every one in the uk to start smoking just to buy a lighter i would , I dont mind what you do with it the company doesn,t have a brain and wont feel bad about it either. As long as people are talking about me and my bars reather than the bars down the street.
Advertising will get you in the end be it ,
a t shirt( hard rock cafe best selling t shirt in the world),
shoes (base and a few more companies now indent the logo on the base so if you walk over soft earth you leave there logo),
lighters(me again),
cars(notice how every reg plate in the uk has the dealer name where you bought it)
base ball caps( best selling NY )
you buy something and the company WILL put a logo on it. hand over your VISA card they will ask you if you want NECTAR points, place it in a BAG with the LOGO of the shop, You get on a bus with the name of the bus makers on the front adverts on the side , go home , hey its the world we live in get used to it or move on

Nice try! But no, it hasn't gotten me yet - and never will! I own none of these useless items except footware.
And yes, it may be "the world we live in, get used it or move on", but that does not mean I personally have to be a blind, stupid, sheeplike, "good little consumer robot" like you, and like it!
Some of us here have good, honest decent values, you shallow piece of garbage!
I'll add a bit more to my short rant before:
My best friend is one of these compulsive fashion people, spending a ridiculous amount of money on designer clothes. I tell him, "dude, you don't need that to earn people's respect", but he won't listen. People think that buying these ridiculously overpriced clothes is going to make them happy. It's like drug addiction, in a way. Well, Hugo Boss isn't going to send you to the dark side of the moon or give you nasty side effects, but there are people who depend on it- and waste all their money on it before anything else. I have drug addict friends too, so I am in a position to compare... It is totally and utterly disgusting. It's gotten to the point where if my friend sees me in public wearing a no-name pair of shoes, he'll get embarrassed "OMG I hope no-one sees that" and tell me that there is a really cheap pair of Cons at some store...for $160. That's how bad it can get for some people...it's so totally wrong.

So you are saying that if there were two jumpers, one was a popular designer brand, and one was plain label, and they were exactly the same except for the brand, you would buy the designer brand that is probably $20 more expensive? (Sorry run-on sentence.)

You are about as entertaining as watching grass grow in a windowbox. What do you do for a living? You are living, aren't you? You are nastier than a five-dollar whore getting a shit enema. You're a waste of time, space, air, flesh, and the rectum you were born from, retard. Maybe you wouldn't be such a Jerk-In-The-Box if your brain cells weren't on the Endangered Species list; if the chief excitement in your meaningless life wasn't spotting people who are fatter than you are, or if you didn't have a face so ugly that your mom had to get well-and-truly drunk before she could breast feed you. No, come to think of it, you would.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't care. As long as I have pants on, I don't care who makes em. Well, as long as they don't look stupid, anyhow.
What is it with $300 sneakers and $500 shirts?

I don't like spending a lot of money on clothes. I either make them, or make a point of buying things without a logo. I'm not in the business of doing anyone else's advertising for them. That goes for everything I buy.
The way I figure it, if someone bases their opinion, good or bad, of me on my appearance or my clothes for more than 30 seconds, I don't want to know them anyway. They're too materialistic and shallow.
As for living a little, when I want to do that, I buy myself something really nice to make a meal. Maybe the steak is more expensive, or I'll add roasted artichokes...anything like that. There's more to life than clothes. Besides, the trendy clothes tend to be uncomfortable styles, and I'd rather die than spend the day itching and pulling a g-string out of my asscrack.
