No actually, it is really sad and that is part of the problem with the world today. To me, racism = ignorance.

Uh...this is the problem with Canadians...they can't find things funny and wrong at the same time. In America, it is great. CNN plays live coverage of the war and you get to see soldiers in action right in your living room. We have TV shows like "RealTV" where the point is to laugh at people getting hurt, or better yet "Jackass" and "Viva la Bam," but at the same time we can realize that, as funny as it is it doesn't make it right. I don't see how that guy getting so upset about a black guy driving a car in NASCAR isn't funny...I feel sorry for that man as he will truly miss out on plenty of great friendships, but it doesn't make his reaction less funny...

Stating that canadians wouldn't get a thing that americans would is... Kinda racistic.

edit: point beeing, it's kinda ignorant to say "all" americans thinks Jackass and Viva la Bam is funny while "all" canadians don't get the/think it's fun. And since you kinda says it's because nationality, it's racistic.

Racism = ignorance is a pretty terrible equasion.
Simply because every statement based on "Something I Dislike = Ignorance" is already doomed to dwindle into a sissy slap-fight arguement.

No, some racists are highly intelligent and educated. Doesn't mean I agree with them but let's just face the fact that racism isn't an exclusive genre of the poor and stupid. People will believe whatever they want when given the input. I favour freedom of speech over squeaky-clean feel-good laws that force ethnic quotas on sitcoms and make the talking about "hate" a crime already.

'Cause that doesn't solve the problem in the least. Communism was officially declared to be the most evil thing ever for over fourty years and most serious communists didn't change their ways regardless of that.

Really, let's all shut up about this until we've been out of college for ten years and have spent this aforementioned decade in reality. Supposedly that puts things into relation, away from ideal and theory towards reality and practise.

It's a cultural identity, not a religion. Judaism is a religion.

everyone is just a little racist. If you see a black guy in the ghetto (i mean the bronx type ghetto) with one hand in his pockets and he's grasping something, coming toward you, you will get scared. Now thats racist whether you like it or not.

and here is a REAL racist website

So what you're saying is that if a black guy with a gun scares you, but a white guy with a gun doesn't scare you?

I've had some real-world examples of racism shoved to the forefront of my attention recently.

Was in a convenience store sunday night, in Seattle, WA (generally known for being very mellow) and an older white guy came into the store and heard the Indian Music that was playing. He says, directly to the clerk, "What the hell is that? Sounds like a cat being tortured or something?!?"

The clerk responds calmly with the explanation that it's the musicby the greatest Indian musician of all time.

The guy responds, "What's his name, Geronimo?"

I was so stunned to hear such ignorance I forgot to tell him off.

Had some more experiences, talking with strangers (which I do quite often), learning that there's a lot more racism happening than I thought. I've been sheltered by my social groups, and have really believed that such attitudes were only in existence *outside* of urban environments.

It is a race as well, it's early, I'm not getting the info, just trust me.

race:

Noun
1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics. 2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race.

Racism is when someone doesn't respect you, your culture or the enviroment in which you live in. Everyone is racist to a small degree whether you like it or not. It's when you refuse to admit it when you start getting others angry.

A real life senario? I live in Berlin, Germany. At one point someone who I knew started harrassing me about being German and having killed Jews. They said that I was nothing but a Nazi and that if I didn't like Germany then why was I living here.

I am German. I'm dang proud of it too. My country did some wrong things before but hey, everyone does and at least we've had the grace to admit it and move on while still paying our respects.

There's really nothing that can be done against racism. You just have to grit your teeth, take it with a grain of salt and move on. Reason being that racism is ingrained in people's minds and there's nothing you can do about it short of brainwashing them.

That's because we have taste and class. Also, we are ranked in the world for having the lowest sense of humour. But that's not a bad thing. After all, at least our comedy hasn't be reduced to people wallowing in their own crapulance for a living.
