Then I guess that makes me a terrorist

If causing fear in the masses is what it takes to be a terrorist, then I guess I'm a terrorist. If blowing myself up while shrilling the name of my favorite deity in the obscene belief that I will be rewarded for killing innocents along with myself is terrorism, then I guess you can check me two for two. If being born in Saudi Arabia is enough to stop me in the airport and make me take off my shoes repeatedly and they manage to find something on me makes me a terrorist, then guess what?

That's right, I'm a terrorist. Anyone with me?

but lith, if you blew yourself up, how did you post that?

ive had to take my shoes off at the airport many times and ive never even flown over saudi arabia. the husband get a thorough search every time he comes back into the country (~10/year)

the govt (john ashcroft *spits*) is a little wacko when it comes to defining terrorists

terrorists kill or maim non related innocent people in an attempt to get the world to notice them and their political problems. if it were just being scary then LA street gangs would be terrorists.

so, bathists in iraq blowing up american soldiers are not terrorists. those who blow up iraqi citizens just trying to go about their own lives are terrorists.

im very much in favor of strict airport security and in favor of making sure everyone is subject to it since there are more than just islamic fundamentalist arab men seeking attention in the world.

anyway i must be thick today. what is your point?

You know, the Bush administration asks all Americans to give up some degree of freedom to for protection, but really they're only asking small portions of America to give up their freedom for the protection of, primarily, the others, which really isn't right.

Ash, Ash, Ash. You should know that when I say things, I don't say them for a reason. I say them just because saying them can be done. Take for example, this (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=328748). I don't make points, I just think it's a little ridiculous that I live in America for 17 years, and everytime I go into the country from another country, the guys at the security go:

"Yeah, everything looks..." *Glance at place of birth, look at face, look back at passport* "We'd like you to step over here sir."
"Is this about the Saudi Arabia thing?"
"No sir, of course not."

I watch their eyes. Everytime, it pauses at the place of birth, and then I get called on it. Fuckers!

i can imagine the incredible computing power involved in chasing you down through all the security data bases out there.

the husband has to allow for an extra hour at customs because he really does get checked every single time he comes into the country.

of course he does look like a drug lord and he has stamps from colombia, thailand, turkey, mexico.

PLUS they have been trying out a new hand scan identity system but HIS hand doesnt register.

do people avoid sitting by you on the plane in case you are gonna blow them up?

I do indeed allow for an extra hour and then some for customs, because I feel your husband's pain. Every single time I go through. EVERY TIME!!!

I don't even look Arab, because I'm not. I don't look like a drug lord or a terrorist, or a computer nerd, or a half-blind 30 foot tall mountain goat. They just check the location, take a look to confirm that my name is, indeed, not Arab, take a look at my face to confirm that it is, indeed, not arab. Then they go through my bags and reveal the condoms that I've yet to use here to the rest of the passengers on the plane that I will be boarding tomorrow.

Dunno about the hand thing.

And I wish people would clear some space so I could lay the fuck down and sleep. Being tall sucks. But alas, no, they don't find out they were on the plane with the terrorist until after we land.

Woo, I'm really done for the night. Morning. Whatever. Out.

I am an American and look and speak very much so. You cannot mistake me for being Muslim or Arabic. When I went through the airport flying to and from Australia earlier this year I had to take off my shoes, running shoes and open all my bags etc. They even scanned a *suspicious* looking object in my briefcase, my one carry on piece of luggage. One of the pieces of luggage I was carrying was very clearly marked with signs and tags from my military service, so not even that kept me from going through everything. I do have to say customs suck, but I have always been for safer airports even before 9/11. So being very white American and military does notmake one immune from the inspections.

18YO mostly Syrian (something like 257/512), quarter jew checking in.
If I go four days without shaving, you can start to call it a beard, and my facial hair is perceived to have a religious significance at about two weeks.
No-one believes I'm 18. Most bars stopped carding me back when I was 16. Occam's razor tells people I'm using a fake ID. Ergo, I get stopped at security, and my ticket is always flagged to set off the sensors.

Now, with Southwest airlines, it doesn't matter. They are also dirt cheap. I set off metal detectors, they sent me aside, told me to empty my pockets, and waved me through without rescanning.
I read the ticket scanner saying "search," and she just said "yeah, it does that every now and then. Don't know why, just go on through."
I've loudly cursed at friends in Arabic on my cell phone on the plane, just to see what happens, and while I got a whole row to myself, the airline didn't care. In the middle of it, the stewardess deadpan read the pre-flight instructions, including "please turn off a cell phones, pagers, and electronic devices," and didn't come back to bother me when I kept on yelling.
Going onto a connecting flight, they didn't ask for ID , just asked if I'd just got off that flight and I was going on this one, then read off a list of names, asked which one was mine, and gave me a boarding pass.
Southwest just doesn't care. On another flight of theirs, I watched the guy loading the checked baggage drop a tube, and he just watched it roll away. They absolutely do not care. If you only use carryons, use them for domestic flights.

Other airlines, though, you just need to appear high-bred. I've mastered "having class & style," and thus people automatically assume I know exactly what I'm doing, and that I'm supposed to be doing it. I no longer get randomly searched at metal detectors. They still hit me at boarding every so often, but they don't bother with questions or orders, they just scan me as I assume a lazy mimicry of the position.
Find some genuinely old-rich people, learn how they act, and act like them. It's worth the effort.

It would be quite a terrorist feat of skill to create a terrorist cell that has infiltrated the airline so they can get free tickets. Letila, we have so much in common, but I want you to know one thing. If I was ever going to suicide bomb a specific target, it would be you. Not because I hate you, just because everything you say is either a remark about anarchy, or a vague reference to the government's role in our life that doesn't make much sense.

The force they are threatening is with is usually referred to as "law".

exactly, sars, its a big mistake to try to eyeball potential terrorists. thats why they have those random checks and end up frisking the old lady with the walker.

they have cut way down on the number of searches though. on my way to vegas no one was randomly searched at the gate. maybe its because it was domestic?

in any case, there are lots of dangerous people in the world and we need to keep that in mind. target the "arab looking gentlemen" and you might miss the radical anarchist right behind him.

Okay, so you aren't going to ever fly Southwest, then.
Without being about half as expensive as any other option there're only two real reasons to fly them: They accept your name as a government-issued photoID, and they don't pay their staff well enough to make them want to search you.

You could, but that would obviously be a reference to Muslims from the middle east. For instance, people look Jewish, although most people associate that particular statement with the European Jews. So to be fair, you can't look Muslim as much as you can look like a stereotype.
