Well I *hate* our American education system - it lets so many slackers get by while doing jack sh*t

The whole concept of 'social promotion' (being promoted through grades just to get rid of you) is ludacris; if ya refuse to do the work because you're lazy, I say you forfeit your education. The government allocates like +/- $15K (correct me if I'm wrong) per student annually for education. Why waste precious taxpayers' dollars on students who refuse to do work?

because if you dint have them in school they would be out on the street

the secondary purpose of schools is to box up people 5-18 years old.

Yes, I understand this. My Japanese friend told me, however, that they do implement some equivalent of my idea in many Asian countries. The problem there is that while unorganized crime is relatively low, there is a bad presence of organized crime rings

I believe one should have access to a free education, including college -- with a few caveats.

If one has no interest in education, and by this I mean the cutters, the kids who misbehave constantly in order to get thrown out of class, and those who never do homework, never crack the book, refuse tests, etc... these people should be removed immediately from schools to allow those who WANT to be educated the opportunity.

Those who do NOT wish to be educated should be given job training in some area that interests them -- auto repair, construction, managing of fast food restaurant, etc. and placed into a job with a living wage. If they cannot manage to keep it because of slacking, then out on the street -- without unemployment.

besides, you would also have people on the streets who are even MORE ignorant than they are now. ignorant people are scary, they are easy to manipulate. they believe all sorts of nonsense.

education is a very complicated issue. there are many many reasons why kids do badly in school. lazy is certainly one. but there are bad families, bad teachers, insidious racism, crappy cirriculae, irrelevant courses.

and kids who are lazy today might well shape up tomorrow. in america we get unlimited second chances.

violent kids and gangs are a much bigger problem in my mind. kids are forced to go to school, that shouldnt include being forced togo to a dangerous school. nor should teachers be forced to teach under conditions that threaten their safety.

No, no... children are socially promoted because some fool study said that it would irreparably damage their self esteem to be left back.

So, having a twenty year old student in a high school freshman class who cannot read DOES NOT damage his self esteem... especially when he is kicked out, illiterate, at 21 with no prospects other than, "Do you want to super-size?"

Doesn't that make perfect sense?

I agreed with you to a piont. But Students who wants to slack off and make nothing of themselves. They should be spoken to by a professional, and find out why they don't want an education. They could have problems. LIke with family or learning disabilties, that they could be ashamed of. Maybe they need help. Inorder to make something of themselves. This is my opinion.

Although im not American the education system is very similar over here in England. For example i know a woman whos a primary school teacher in the London borough of walthamstow, which has the most 'inclusive' educational authority in England. Just recently a new immigrant kid has been put into her class. The kid doesnt speak English, cant speak her own language very well, cant count, cant draw pictures and doesnt even answer to her own name. Yet because walthamstow is such an 'inclusive' authority there are no special schools in the borough and no streamlining within the schools. So my friend has to try and find a way to teach a class with ability levels ranging from very bright to borderline retarded and ADHD individuals. All moving at the pace of the slowest learner.

If it wasnt so serious it would be laughable. :?
