Why are people with diseases so god damn funny. It seems everyday humans get a laugh out of their fellow beings for being retarded, blind, short, deaf, mute, missing limbs, or various other physical and mental deformities but anyways keep going with the midget things cause its cool but really think about this one. :?:

because your a sick person with no conscience of human emotions and conscienceness and have no clue what kind of mental-trauma you may be causing?

It's a question, not a flame

I think it's bred from personal insecurity.

Need I elaborate?

i know it's terrible, but i crack helen keller jokes and such. oh well. they're terribly funny, but maybe it's humor bred in relief that we aren't like that.

I think it's also the human fascination with destruction... like slowing down by a car crash.
Also, people laughing purely in self defense- an idea is frightening, out of the norm, peculiar to them.. they laugh.

But I still say the base of it all is personal insecurity. Sometimes peer pressure too, in various forms.

Read Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein. He talks about how we only laugh at the things that it would hurt too much to cry about. So true.

I studied some comic theory in college (trust me, nothing is less funny than comic theory), and a lot of theories about humor basically boil down to:
anything that takes you further from being mentally, emotionally, or physically flexible (or able) is funny. Slipping and falling on your ass is funny because it shows that you don't have the mental attention to notice the slippery patch, or the physical agility to remain standing. So you're funny. Kinda effed up, huh? Nearly every piece of comedy in existence works like this. Bring me an exception, I'll try to give you a justification.
Hope I'm not ruining comedy for anyone else.
And Helen Keller jokes are HILARIOUS! You've heard the one about why her dog ran away?

well then it looks like we have an answer but people may word it differently or have a different view point but that about covers the comedy part of it i think

But this guy was born like this and it already seems you see him as a bad/Evil guy. Why do you think that when you see him?

there's not a lot of thinking to it. it might have to do with how his eyes are looking and the black and white gives it a more meniacle look but i dont know why you are trying to play phyciatrist on me

aren't we talking about disable people, here? birth defects and whatnot? because cancer is a whole different bag. but i don't have a greatest love, so i can cheerfully say yes.

It can still fall under the same catagory when it comes to death.... disabled people can actually die around 15 years of age.... same with cancer.... it isn't a laughing matter when you are so attacked to that person and they die at such a younge age...

I can't really put my finger on why, admittedly, I sometimes chuckle when I see a mentally or physically disabled person. Interestingly, seeing disabled people in public is almost never funny to me unless they are causing some sort of ruckus. It is usually when I see them portrayed in a comical situation on television or in the movies that I find them funny. I guess it does stem from insecurity as Avia said--seeing someone in such a diminished state is somehow funny because normally we have to be wary of others in such a competitive world. When they are so obviously inferior we don't necessarily feel outright superior, but we experience a kind of absurd relief or fascination with their misfortune, and begin to laugh.

Ok, you asked for it. It is funnier out loud, but for you, Avia, I'll try.

Why did Helen Keller's dog run away?

Well, you would too if your name was Aaaghgghouahghgh...
(Imagine loud, incoherent noises made by someone who has never heard anything)

I know it is terrible. But I also know at least one deaf person who thinks it is hilarious (when she reads my lips and has her hand on my larynx).

its funny cause at the school I go to, we are all white, rich, racist bastards. ok, not true.

I think jokes of that sort are funny only to people who don't really think its funny. If you can follow that logic. We laugh because we know we are not being serious.
