so i've heard (from an unnamed source, but let's go with it anyways) that only 20% of hard drug users have never used marijuana.
i'm curious if anyone knows any statistics regarding use of tobacco and alcohol before hard drug usage. i'll wager dollars to donuts that the percentage of coke heads and herion addicts who have never gotten drunk of smoked a cigarette is lower than the percentage of those who have never used marijuana.

incidently, only 6% of pot smokers have never smoked tobacco.

geez. why doesn't anyone know any stats on alcohol and hard drug use? so many pro-war on drugs people will go on and try to tell me that pot is a gateway drug, yet no one knows anything about how many hard drug users drank first.

fuck it.

I prefer pipes, they're more efficient.

I just bought a really pretty one, blue and orange spiral stripes, it's filling in quite nicely.

*fills it in some more*

I'm not sure that this will help at all, but" The National Institute on Drug Abuse found that 95% of high school seniors who smoked, tried illicit drugs, while only 27% of non-smokers tried illicit drugs."

This is one of the more persistent myths. A real world example of what happens when marijuana is readily available can be found in Holland. The Dutch partially legalized marijuana in the 1970s. Since then, hard drug use-heroin and cocaine-have DECLINED substantially.

If marijuana really were a gateway drug, one would have expected use of hard drugs to have gone up, not down. This apparent "negative gateway" effect has also been observed in the United States. Studies done in the early 1970s showed a negative correlation between use of marijuana and use of alcohol.

A 1993 Rand Corporation study that compared drug use in states that had decriminalized marijuana versus those that had not, found that where marijuana was more available-the states that had decriminalized-hard drug abuse as measured by emergency room episodes decreased. In short, what science and actual experience tell us is that marijuana tends to substitute for the much more dangerous hard drugs like alcohol, cocaine, and heroin.
