FA release statement about potential match fixing during EURO 2004
Today, at 1.30, the FA have released a statement concerning the performance of the referee during last nights quarter final game between the host nation, Portugal and England.

This was statement was made in response to the press conference held by Sven-Goran Eriksson this afternoon at 12.30. Who uncovered a link between the referee, Urs Meier (Switzerland) and the Portugeuese Football Officials. It is alleged that Mr Meier has been in negotiations with the Portugeuese Officials for a long period of time.

During the conference, the England manager also pinpointed with the use of video evidence 23 occasions where the referee made decisions in Portugal's favour. Incidents including Sol Campbells goal in the 89th minute have been brought into question and various tackles that were deemed a foul by the referee which resulted in the break down of Englands play. Sven-Goran Eriksson went on to accuse the two parties, the Portugeuese Officaials and the referee, Urs Meier, of fixing the outcome of the game.

In response to the allegation from the England manager, the FA have lauched a full scale investigation.

If this the allegations are confirmed, under World Football Federation rules, paragraph 6 sub section 2e, the host nation Portugal will forfeit the quarter final match and England will proceed through to the Semi finals.

The Referee Association and Mr Meier's agent are expected to release a statement in the next 48 hours.

hehhe yea that was funneh

But the english are just as bad as the italians who blamed their socks for losing out. The ref also did not allow a goal that C. Ronaldo scored by just completely going along with the gameplay. That goal could also have won it for Portugal much earlier in the game.

But, just though I'd point it out and that was funny.
