You have to remember the concept of free and open debate is a Liberal one. When arguing with Conservative stick to pointing out the fact that in the past five minutes they have contradicted themselves over nine times.

I got banned from a liberal forum for disagreeing also. But there is probably plenty of liberal and conservative that will accept differing views.

I've been banned from a couple of forums for voicing my opinions, usually in the area of freedom of speech. The forum administrators seem to take offense when I, or anyone else for that matter, disputes their power or make them seem inadequate for their job. Silence is not a virtue when it comes to your beliefs, so long as you don't force others to believe as you do. Opinions are fine, even differing ones. 8)

Same here in Holland, although Liberal isn't used as an insult. From right to left you have (roughly) the Liberals, the Christan-Democrats, Labour, the Greens and the Socialists.

Though the Liberal Party is classic "Liberal" (economic sense) as opposed to social "liberal". The US definition of liberal is completely different.

What is considered liberal today will probably be picked up by the other side and used as conservative in 10 years. Also, to be fair, you need to specify whether you are talking about economically or socially liberal. They totally don't relate to one another in todays political reality.

Liberal in many places still means "classical liberal" who were "socially" liberal (for want of a better term), economically liberal AND left wing! Then the conservatives, who were right wing and anti free market, embraced industrialism but wanted to supervise and regulate it giving modern conservativism.

The classical liberals in America and Britain were later betrayed from within by supporters of Bentham and Mill (the utilitarians) to become a diluted form of socialism giving modern liberalism. Classical liberals are now called Libertarians in America and the UK. By historical accident they are in a confused position, neither left nor right. But it is the only position which consistently opposes all forms of government agression and is, if anything, very old school left wing.

If I were you I'd be more upset if the neo-cons didn't boot you off.

On one of my forums (Languish) we found this other set of forums called the International Socialist Forums or something, and they said crazy things like "Yeah, although Kim-Jong Il has done some bad things, well, ultimately he's been good for Korea - after all, all those statues there spurred the construction industry in North Korea" - and thats not in parody, they meant it. They were unapologetic Stalinists.

So we organized an invasion. The board I come from is generally economically conservative (in the American sense), with some variation, however, not too many socialists. The big differences come over social issues, but thats not for this post. We all registered on names on the ISF - International Socialist Forums - and started disputing all the crazy stuff that came out of their mouth untill they banned us. They then spammed our forum back. Too bad there was a 90-second post waiting time for people with under 100 posts, meaning it was quite easy to see the spam, ban the member, and delete it. :wink:

We didn't take over their boards or anything in the nation states form of 'invasion', a bunch of us simply made accounts on that board and started to take them out of lala land. As it was, they banned us because we were bourgeoises oppressors.

oh no forum invasions are fun, i've only been involved in one but it was a blast. audiogalaxy's general board invaded the european mtv messageboard, it was a ton of fun, until the generals started feeling guilty and we all went home.
