Please follow me on this. There is a very distinct philosophy that would make someone want a small military, social welfare, and a non-interference stance for the government of social issues, and another philosophy that would advocate a strong military, a free market, and family values.

There are other philosophies that advocate other things, but these two are very popular. Why do people who go beyond these declarations brand the remander with such silly slogans? I have never call one a my conservative freinds a 'facist' or 'racist' and really meant it. I have never said an anarchist is out to destroy the world, or that authoritarianism would create another Joseph Stalin. I don't call moderates 'indecisive wimps.' I don't call Muslims 'terrorists' (unless they really are terrorists). I follow a liberal doctrine that says not to hate. Why do you people always brand us Liberals and Conservatives?

I use Liberal and Conservative very generally...I tend to call moderate conservatives just "Republican," while moderate liberals are "Pretty Democratic" (as in the party). Far-Right people are usually "Neo-Cons" or "Fascists" (depending on my mood that day), while far-lefters are usually "Socialists" or "Extreme Leftists." I know, I know, I'm still labeling people, but I do use more than two labels.

That's how people always act towards others who are different.

"You don't think drugs should be legal? You fascist nazi racist!"

"You don't think creation should be taught in school? You heathen secular hippie!"

I don't really see anything wrong with labels. I call myself a conservative. I use the term because I don't want to give myself carple-tunnel or arthritis from typing out massive terms to explain my political stance. I prefer something simple and broad rather than using numerous words ending in -ian and -ist. I don't see it as an oversimplification, I just see it as saving time. I also don't really care for the broad term because it sounds to me like someone is trying to place titles on themselves when the say," I am a antidisestablishmentarian facist authoritarian!" Conservative or Liberal will do just fine, thank you. I don't think less or more of a person for being on either side of the political spectrum. That only occurs if the person cannot put a reasoning behind why they support their position. Conservative or Liberal are just terms that tell me whether I will likely be in agreement with a person on some issues. Aside from that, they don't mean much to me. They are just words, they don't make the man/woman, I don't see why so many people stress over them.

I don't use labels on myself because none fit.

I do suppose I'm more of a liberal though :p

Usually far right-wingers are known as paleo-cons more conservative then neo-cons, George Bush would be a neo-con. I am a paleo-con and usually I get branded as a dimwitted Jesus-freak racist. All of the people calling me that are usually all dumber than me. well I guess you have to live with stereotypes.
