For the record, they're not getting upset over someone burning or tampering with the flag in the conventional sense. They're getting mad because a gay rights group created a logo incorporating the American flag. Pretty ludicrous, but what do you expect from the far-right.

You can't judge every republican on nationstates as being to far right. I would consider myself a moderate conservative. I am not far right at all. Your assumption proves that you are far left. For example I am pro gay rights, I feel it is a womans choice, I feel fox news is far right wing and I don't like Bush. Not every conservative is a right wing neo nazi. However Ido have conservative policys on goverment and economics. In fact there are alot of far left people in here for my taste. One even advocated the slaughter of our soilders. Extremism is on both sides of the political spectrum.

I also foundn it interesting that the proper way to dispose of a flag past its serviceable time is by burning it - section 8k: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." So, it is okay to burn old flags then, even though they are living things?

Also of interest is section 8b: "The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise." Are we to assume that this paper defines air as 'not-a-thing'?

Outlawing the burning of flags is a pretty clear violation of the right to free speech. As a rule, people don't burn flags because it is fun, or just to be badass. People burns flags because they have some specific message that they are getting across. Usually revolving around being anti-somethingthegovernmentisdoing.
There are two ways you can go on this issue: either the flag is just a piece of fabric, in which case it clearly isn't a crime. Burning fabric isn't criminal. Or the flag is a symbol, in which case burning it is also symbolic, and protected as free speech.

And you can go on and on about all the people that have fought and died to protect the flag, and everything it stands for, and how it is disrespectful. But the fact is, people shouldn't HAVE to be respectful of their government, or even their country. Patriotism can never be compulsory. I'm not saying that you are required to like people who burn flags or respect their actions. Feel free to hate them passionately. But you don't have the right to censor them. And that is what the ACLU is all about: fighting for people whose Constitutional rights are being threatened, whether their position is popular or not.

Given the big ass confederate flag that was the signature for this poster, I think I understand what they think they where going for, but I don't know that they thought this quote through when they added it to their list of quotes:
