I saw this on a CNN ticker

The Supreme Court ruled that the Abu Ghraib prison cant be demolished (like how Bush wants) because it was a crime scene and it would be destruction of evidence

OK? :?

How can they rule on that?

If they can rule on that, then shouldn't they be ruling on Gitmo?

FINALLY. i have been wondering when somebody would get around to that...i was not at all surprised to hear Bush's intention to destroy the place, since it's the scene of so many criminal acts under the watch of his administration.

The ruling is expected by the end of this month, as far as I know.

That's good news. Well depending on what they decide. I kind of think there is a conservative slant now so they might say it is legit.

I was one of many taken up by the anger of 9/11. Had friends and family there. Didn't loose anybody but it did take a couple days to find some of them.

Time has passed and a "level headed" view of Gitmo now says it is wrong! People being held without charge is illegal imprisonment.

If we are to show the world; we have the best law system, it has to apply to everybody.

Well, come June 30th, it won't be up to the Supreme Court; it will be up to the new Iraki gouvernment.

Presumably a sovereign Iraq could demolish it though because the American Supreme Court would have no jurisdiction there.

My guess is that if sovereign Iraq is not so "sovereign" after all, nationalists would eventually dynamite the prison and no-one would stop them.
